Wrong kind
I fished the OEX bass tournament at Shelter Island today. I didn't get to prefish so wasn't expecting much. Heard that the sandbass bite was really slow so that left me with two options. Plan a, get a limit of the smaller spotties then go looking for the bigger sandies. Plan b, just look for the bigger sandies. I opted for plan b. Hit all the spots that have given up nice fish in the past for nada. Finally found some fish that were willing to bite. But they were the baby version. Only got two barely legal bass. :( Caught all my fish long lineing a 1 1/2 ounce spinnerbait. Including this guy.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...GP0006-1-1.jpg 42 inches and 28 pounds. Very fun fish on bass gear but didn't help with my score. :( So after filleting ( or whatever you want to call it ) I noticed what looked like hair in the flesh. Can someone please tell me what these are? Is the fish safe to eat? Thanks guys. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...IMGP0014-1.jpg |
That's a nice halibut.

That's one hell of a consolation prize. Great catch. :cheers1:
|
That the largest Hali I've seen caught in the bay. Nice job!!!
|
Really nice bay butt. Good job.
|
X2. Veins, :wsb: have the same thing.
|
nice butt! and ya just viens. even if it was parasites. just cook it. you'll be fine. freezing it first also kills any parasites you might be worried about. when we get fish from the store, if they have any visibly parasites its not a bad thing, just means its never been frozen and is fresh.

toad!

I remember that garage....Got my first Kayak from that store :). Nice Hali

The call on the radio was something like. "Weigh boat Steve Where you at? I have about a 25 # halibut and no gaff..........I just want my spinnerbait back" :D
That is a helluva brown beaver on the bass rod! :luxhello::luxhello::luxhello: |

very nice hali
ya just veins worms tend to curl up into a spiral and move bleeding out while still alive tend to make them less vis the veins that is |
I'm on a mission for that kind of wrong kind! Nice job.
|
That by-catch doesn't suck! I'll go out on a limb, and say that has to be one of the biggest so-cal spinnerbait caught hali's ever. Biggest I've seen at least. :cheers1:

NO WAY !!!! george OUR next trip is sd bay
|
You look pissed man....haha.
28lb. Spinnerbait. Bass rod. Damn...what an awesome fight and story. Bob - What pound test were you using? |
Thanks for the responses guys. They looked like veins but I just wanted to make sure. I've always been a c @ r guy so never " filleted " a butt before. About a week ago the wife and I were talking and she said it would be nice to have some halibut for dinner. I felt bad for keeping this one but she was happy. Still feel bad but keeping 1 out of a hundred isn't too bad. Anyways, thanks again.

That's kinda funny roby. The first thing that I thought about was how much this fish would have helped you out. Oh well. 30 lb powerpro with a 15 lb. yozuri leader. It would have been easier if it bit when I had most of my line back instead of almost all my line out.:( Not sure I would have landed it if I wasn't able to chase it down with the revo. |
Very nice halibut Bob!!!!!!!!!! :cheers1:
|
oh snap! very nice bob!! congrats!!!! :cheers1:
|
Beeeautiful butt Bobby!:D:luxhello:
|
purrrdy halibut, must have been a trip on a bass gear :cheers1:
