Black Pearl 2012 Schedule

Black Pearl Trips Canceled!
<hr style="color:#FFFFFF; background-color:#FFFFFF" size="1"> Sorry for such short notice on those planning for this coming weekend, but the Black Pearl is now all the way up in Morro Bay. Bummed that we are cut short on what could could have been epic Fall island fishing. I will be refunding all deposits/full payments to everyone who is signed for Aug, Sept, Oct and Nov.

Originally we were only up in the air for the trips in Oct and Nov as the Long Beach Sportfishing Landing is being forced to close.

Rick was offered space up in Morro Bay and decided not to wait for the boot.

Bummed, but understand, you do what you have to to stay afloat. Tough times to own a sport boat!
Andy
between 9am-6pm

Next trip is fishing May 12th,13th and has plenty of spots open!
562-592-0800 for reservations.

An opportunity to go kayak fishing at San Nicolas, Santa Barbara, San Clemente and Santa Catalina. This will be based on what is biting where, as well as weather conditions. Ideally fishing at 2 different islands. These trips will run once a month. Target species will be halibut, white seabass, yellowtail, ling cod, rockfish, sheephead, whitefish, and calico bass.

The Black Pearl is a 65 foot sportfisher that is based out of Long Beach Sportfishing. I have chartered a kayak trip with the captain, Rick Craddick, before and was left with nothing but good things to say and found the same from everyone else aboard. On the water a zodiac will make the rounds to bring us bait, drinks, take your catch and get it on ice. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the galley and are included in the cost. We made squid and very likely will have the opportunity to do the same on these trips, the first and second night out. Trips are limited to 12 persons and I will have a waiting list if needed. Trip cost is $395. You can call in with a credit card or bring cash or a check by OEX Sunset Beach. $50 deposit will hold your spot. Remaining payment at departure time will need to be cash or a check. Credit cards can be used up to 6pm closing time, Friday, the day of departure. 562-592-0800

All scheduled trips depart Friday Evening at 9 PM, fish Saturday and Sunday returning late Sunday evening.

bigbarrels 02-20-2012 05:52 PM

Man, I'm scheduled to work every month on those dates except April 21,22 (work every other weekend)........what are the targeted species in April (WSB, halibut, Calicos, YT)? I think I'm in for April......if the dates were on different weekends of the other months (weekend before or weekend after the listed dates) I could sign up for more:D

ful-rac 02-20-2012 08:31 PM

Yeah andy i would love to pick my bunk do you have a layout diagram?

erinoo 02-21-2012 01:59 PM

Black Pearl

Joy and I will be going on the June and September. Checks in the mail.

jorluivil 02-21-2012 10:52 PM

I want to do the September trip but its already an expensive summer for me and it hasn't even started. 3 day music festival in April, 2.5 day Islander trip in June, 2 day kayak Catalina camping trip in July, 2 day kayak camping trip in the Sierra's in Aug..........Either I need a second job or need to buy my wife another nice 'just because' gift.

bigbarrels 02-22-2012 05:01 PM

stoked, I'm in for April:reel:

fishingfiend 02-22-2012 07:17 PM

I'm new to kayak fishing, but not new to fishing our local islands. I believe the Black Pearl used to be the Seahawk LXV with the other captain Rick? If so, I've logged lots of time onboard. :) How is the mothership experience? Is it easy to get the yaks on and off?

I love the idea of having a zodiac deliver bait and beers! Big Reds and Lings at Nich would be fun while waiting for YT/WSB love. The restricted fishing area and depth restrictions have always made SBI so hit or miss for me. Is it much better from a kayak? Either way, I'm very interested!

Iceman 02-22-2012 08:18 PM

Thanks Tom, spots filling in on all 6 trips.

Getting on and off the boat was cake for most of us.

GregAndrew 02-23-2012 05:08 PM

What is the limit on them freedivers? And is there a slot on them?

Iceman 02-27-2012 08:19 AM

April trip is now half full, July is 1/2 full. Every month has at least a few sign ups. Really hope they all run! I plan to fish for BIG halibut in April and big shallow yoyo lings and reds! Hopefully we get to Nic on the first trip!

Stoked with the response so far. We have 4 spots left on the April trip. Come by our booth at Fred Hall for a chance at a free spot on any one of the 6 scheduled 2 day trips. Free raffle. The winner will be drawn at closing Sunday and notified via e mail.

Iceman 03-01-2012 01:21 PM

2 spots left now for April!

jorluivil 03-01-2012 10:43 PM

   I JUST GOT MY INCENTIVE CHECK

Looks like I won't need to beg the wife anymore. Ok, maybe I will but first I'll take her shopping :D

I can't do the April trip
May is a Maybe
June gloom
July I'm semi-booked
Aug I'm so-so booked
Sept looks best....who's on the Sept boat?

Enceladus 03-02-2012 04:14 PM

I'm fired up to be going on the April trip! I've been fishing my entire life but but not on the ocean and not on a floating piece of plastic. The wife isn't happy that I'm spending a little too much cash on salt water fishing equipment, but she not being too hard on me. Will I jinx myself by insisting we get a freezer for the garage? :D

April is sold out, waiting list available, 7 weeks away, may have something open up. July has only 4 spots left. Other trips have plenty of spots open.

Good to hear:)

Salty Dog 03-06-2012 09:12 PM

These trips really scare me. You're miles away from the nearest convenience store. What happens if they run out of barley pops? Do they stock enough frosty malt beverages on board? I'd sure hate to have to stir up a mutiny!

FLORIDA BOY! 03-07-2012 03:06 PM

Iiiii, the black pearl!

I'm on the april & july trips. I too hope they go. Last year the Islander cancelled the dates i reserved, and the Erik, well we all know happened there. God rest their souls.

Iceman 03-13-2012 08:00 AM

July is full, standby available only.

Iceman 03-27-2012 07:03 AM

San Clemente Island has been added to the list of possible destinations.

Departure times are set for 9PM

Drake 03-27-2012 08:07 AM

Iceman. Is it possible to bring a PA on board?

Iceman 04-02-2012 09:14 AM

Capt Rick came by yesterday and we discussed Pro Anglers...........he wants one :D he said if he was going to fish in a "kayak" that would be the one.

He also says we can have 2 Pro Anglers per trip, so first come first serve! We will be utilizing the hoist on board that is used to load and unload the RIB/chase skiff.

PapaDave 04-02-2012 09:39 AM

Cool on the PA's. When you say first come first serve, how does that work? Do you grab the PA spot when making reservations?

And speaking of reservations, which trip are still available? I think I signed up for one but did not get a deposit in yet, did I do that?

Yes, you would have to specify when you make a reservation to secure 1 of the 2 spots allocated for Pro Anglers. If you have made a reservation, I would have taken cc $50 deposit. Call me if you think you have done otherwise. 562-592-0800

"Myself or another OEX Pro Staff member will be on every trip to assist you on the water"

So, are you going to hold the can or pull the tab?

Iceman 04-05-2012 08:01 AM

If the weather cooperates we will be fishing San Nic on day 1 and Santa Barbara on day 2........unless something pops elsewhere.

halibut, lings, sheephead, shallow rockfish, whitefish and bass are the expected target species, plastics, iron and dropper loop fishing.

Iceman 04-06-2012 08:18 AM
