Tuna in la Jolla?

Could have sworn i saw a guy catch a yellowfin tuna in la Jolla this weekend. Anyone know anything about this? I was fishing the jewel via kayak for the first time in a while outside the nw corner in 19 fathoms. Watched a pod of porpoise blow through an ivory pro angler about a quarter mile outside of me and he hooked up. Landed a fish I swear to have been a tuna. Anyone have word on this?

Pocoloco 10-01-2012 12:19 PM

not on this site. very hush hush

blitzburgh 10-01-2012 12:31 PM

Don't dolphin & porpoise's often swim with Tuna? I guess it's possible. That would be freekin cool.

Drake 10-01-2012 12:39 PM

Looks ready to be cut up for lobster bait.
If it is indeed an honest catch, good job, that is something special.

I didnt know tuna came with a meta file?

steveooo 10-01-2012 03:21 PM

I never would have thought to pack sushi for lunch on the kayak ;). Here is what I usually opt for to pack for my on the water snack-

Jalapeño Cheddar Roast Beef wrap. So tasty.

Right place Right time! Congrats....if there is any year for inshore tuna this is the one. Probably the one and only bluefin caught off LJ from a kayak. When WON and Lets talk hookup get word of this ur phone will be ringing off the hook:luxhello:.

Aaron&Julie 10-01-2012 05:42 PM

Drake, congrats if it's legit, a truly awesome catch off of La Jolla. While I have witnessed a Dorado years back caught inside of the NW corner, I've never heard of bluefin caught there. We used to catch them not far from the mouth of Redondo harbor over a deep canyon, many years ago, so anything is possible, I suppose.
But, I can understand anyone's skepticism, as that fish looks like it's been in a fish hold for days, i.e. offshore trip and maybe one that didn't stay chilled properly. Having fished many a tuna trip and worked on albie boats, it's hard to believe that fish got that beat up in a kayak, on the same day it was caught. My 2 cents.
If this is gag, with other parties in on it, it's a good one, but I'm not biting. Too many pranksters around here to take this as legit. More power to you if it is on the up-and-up.
Aaron

Drake 10-01-2012 05:49 PM

Finnneeeee. I'll come clean. I was going to let this go for a day or two but too many people don't like the fun.

The OP was a deck hand on the boat and we thought it would be funny =)

Plus theres been no more than 5 boats/kayaks in LJ. This was to see how much our sites fishdope effects the cove. I'm expecting to see a bunch more boats out tomorrow.

And to all those who say its days old. It was only about 7-8 hours or so.
Times are slow, let us have some fun. Too many people getting their panties in a bunch. LIke Matt and his lobster post.

Drake, glad you came clean, rumor has it there was a mob of anger divers with re-breathers coming to throw bricks at you!

jorluivil 10-01-2012 06:24 PM

You might have fooled the same people that Matt did with his out of season lobster prank.

StinkyMatt 10-01-2012 06:34 PM

Drake, does not matter how much you deny it, Iknow that there are tuna in LJ.

I am coming to LJ to troll feathers and wood plugs, you can't fool me. I have multiple witnesses to you catching that tuna.

Everyone, WFO tuna at the corner.:D

I heard that they also will go ape sh@t over a slowly trolled undersized lobster.

Dannowar 10-01-2012 06:46 PM
