If there really is a club being formed (informal or otherwise) I'd sure like to participate - assuming this wasn't part of the April 1st festivities...

Carlsbad backbay use

Doesnt Carlsbad have an entry fee to drop ur kayak in their backbay as well as a vessal fee? And can you paddle in by the ocean rivermouth?

Baja_Traveler 04-02-2013 07:12 PM

Last Sunday in April, SD Bay - check....

I'll be there - fly rod in hand! Just tied a bunch of these rattle flys that should work great on the spotties...

Cross over the Coronado bridge staying in the right lane. 1st right after passing the old toll booths, right at 1st stop sign. Follow road into parking lot. Park in corner by skate park. You can see it as you cross the bridge.

MrPatrick 04-11-2013 08:05 PM

Sounds good

Always up to fish with new people. Count me in..:cheers1: I have some Z-MAN Shrimp that got crushed last time out.

Baja_Traveler 04-11-2013 08:05 PM

JarrodMc 04-11-2013 09:56 PM

See you guys out there!

Baja_Traveler 04-19-2013 01:07 PM

OK, I've just decided that I need to perfect my Pulled Pork some more. Last time I made it (14 hours in the smoker) it was greeted with positive reviews, but I still think it lacked something. So my experimentation is your gain - I'm going to smoke an 8 pound pork shoulder using a new rub and finishing sauce recipe on the 27th, and we will have pulled pork sandwiches for lunch on the 28th. (I've already got my vacuum packing and reheating technique down) - I'll have enough to feed 16 or so people easily, so don't worry about eating if you forget to bring anything! :drool5:

finyak 04-21-2013 01:38 PM

I'am in if nothing important come's up,but I don't know what can be more important than Spotathon:D.

JarrodMc 04-21-2013 07:38 PM

Bring your appetite - just put a 6.5 lb pork shoulder in Here Piggy Piggy brine, where it will remain until thursday night when I dry it off and dry rub it for a Friday night smoke. Sometime Saturday afternoon I'll pull it and make slaw to go with it. Bring your beverage of choice...

fisher_4_life 04-24-2013 10:56 AM

I will be there. Can't wait to fish with everyone!

Alright - just about ready! Pork shoulder just came off the smoker - 14 1/2 hours smoked with pitmasters choice (Hickory / cherry / maple) and the new rub recipe. Wrapped up in towels and "resting" for several hours before I pull it. Finishing sauce, custom BBQ sauce made and the coleslaw is in the fridge doing it's thing. See you all tomorrow!

How'd you guys do out there? I wanted to go, but wasn't able to make it. No scorecard?

Pocoloco 04-29-2013 07:32 AM

nice meeting up with you guys. It was nice to put some faces to the names. It was a good morning but could only manage 1 spotty over 2 lbs. out of the 20 + i caught. Add 5 orange mouth corvina and 1 short halibut. Maybe this summer we could do a bone fish tourny out of j street. tight lines:luxhello:
