Dragging my PA14 through the sand on a standard cart is a workout and a half!

I'm getting too old for that...

How are you supposed to load the kayak without turning it on it's side?

Bigger question is, How do you take it off your kayak thats loaded with gear with spilling everything?

One person can remove the cart easily without tipping it to the side, just lift it from the stern and the cart will drop out. To put the cart on with out tipping it to the side you need 2 people.

I thought it wasn't good to use the ones that fit in the scuppers? :confused:

I had read that people were making scupper hole wheel carts and using them on fully loaded non-Hobie kayaks, like the Malibus.. and there is a known weak area at the scupper hole sites that can crack and leak. The Hobies, are thicker reinforced plastic around the scupper holes, and are designed to accommodate the Hobie scupper wheel carts. The Hobies are fine with the scupper carts.

There are lots of posts on this topic on the Hobie Forums.

Tim, Hobie has a sleeve insert that reinforces the scuppers, they also have a pair of post clamps on the cart that supports the weight on the bottom of the kayak.

is it possible to buy just the frame? i already have the wheels.

I would guess that you have a Wheeleez Beach cart that has the same tires but not the same wheel. Your wheel goes on a thicker aluminum axle with a hole and a (cotter pin) this cart has a smaller diameter stainless axle and the wheel is held on with a snap ring and a groove in the axle.

Can you show a picture of the post clamps?And how they work.

I was never able to get the post clamps tight enough to support my fully-loaded Prangler 14. So I cut two pieces of PVC that just fit over the cart tubes - and then two more pieces of PVC that just fit over the first ones, making them twice as thick. I put them on under the post clamps, so the PVC rests on the axle and supports the clamps. I carefully measured the cart posts so that with the PVC spacers installed I still had room to insert the keeper pin into the post top.

Other folks have simply replaced the post clamps with a tennis ball, but that may or may not allow you to still use the keeper pin.

This view is looking with the cart "upside down" (from the wheel side) at the two PVC sleeves. Note how one fits inside the other and both sit on the axle with the post clamp above.

Can someone help me find a dealer that carries this? I've even checked "Big Waters Edge" and can't find it to order. I can only find the Trax 2. THANKS!!!

Update; I called their phone #, got another number where Andy works and waiting for a call back. Looks like this cart is called the TRAX-2 30" or something like that. Can't find any reference to it anywhere else on the internet though.

I found a place in Florida that has them in stock with only $6 shipping and no sales tax.

It's a shame that a product built in California can be shipped to Florida, then BACK to California and be cheaper than just buying it local here in CA.

I've been on the wrong side of that fends and it does suck.... We've had countless customers come in and waist hours of our time then turn around and buy from online vendors to save on the tax. Our tax laws are too slow to catch up to technology.

<O:pJust a word of advice, give the local guys a chance to price match online vendors. Just ask it wouldn’t offend them, especially if it’s the struggling mom and pop shops. <O:p

Any chance Hobie will give those of us that have already purchased the old carts and had to repair them because they broke a deal on the new carts? Ive had to weld the axle back in at the riser and had to straighten the axle out.

If you had not noticed, this site is provided by the good people at OEX/ KayakFishingSupplies.com. that's why i have only used my wheels a few times, in 10 yrs of Hobie yakking.
if there is no one else around to help out after landing, then u can never get your yak back onto the wheels. :(

i always stay out on water until past sunset, then land on a dark beach.
rarely ever anybody else around on a dark beach. :evil:
