BARRETT LAKE 05/08

Got the chance to fish Barrett and jumped on the ticket. There was a little bit of weather with cloud cover the entire day. I found the water level 10-15ft lower than at closing time last season. It's great to get a visual on all the structure that is typically underwater.

Fishing was really good. My final count was 46 bass, 1 bullgill & 1 crappie with a 3lber being the largest. I ran through a good amount of baits and techniques before I dialed in the bite. Within little time, the bass and I were both focused on the Damiki DPop 70 in Black Holo. This was a new bait, first time using it and by the days end, it was hammered. They were on the Shad pattern, so I also through a 1/4oz War silver head with a 3" Big Hammer #21 - Threadfin Shad. Match the Hatch.

Great day overall and already looking forward to getting back out there.

I'd say 90% of the fish were unmarked (healthy looking). There are a lot of bass in the lake. I spent the entire day working pine arm with plenty of bites.

The top water bite really came together. The popper was the ticket, but I also got a few on the Sammy 100 and Spook.

Nice to know I can fish a PA there - so many of the lakes don't allow "Sit-on-Tops", that I can never tell where I can go and where I cant.

So I take it you have to get in on a ticket lottery to fish there or something?

Great pics..
I've always wanted to do this. I've heard great things about Barrett.

How does it work with the kayak? Don't the tickets include boat launch/rental? Do you tow the kayak? Or put it up on the boat? Or is there a completely separate kayak launch site?

Thanks..

karl is going to get something going soon.
i hope to make it out with karl and your pops after standby 5/23

Fishninja,

I'm not sure about the boat launching but I've been before and there is a separate area to kayak launch. The boats are flat bottom aluminums with a small motor to get around. I've only been on a kayak though.

You pay your lake fee($20) at the gate entrance if you want to launch your kayak. Then you drive to an area called Pigs Point. It's 1/4 mi. before the docks. From Pigs Point you may take your time unloading and launching from a beach point. bring your wheelie cart...lake is down a bit and the walk is 75-100 yards from parking. You also have the option of launching your kayak by the docks.

It's a blast right now. On cinco de mayo I got an 8.3 and a 6.11.

Is that a PVC bumper kit on your tube?

Pocoloco 05-13-2013 07:44 AM

I was there on sat/11th. It was hot and windy. Started wide open at the dam, but slowed down as the sun rose. Shad pattern was working. If you go to piggy point, you should drop down toward the docks. The lake is way down so the old way is steep. Note: No shade anywhere near the water. Lake is low:cheers1:

In a way, yes. But it's design is to hold fish finder, camera and light mounts(Phase 2 yet to be completed). The other side is identical with rod holders attached. It's a copy of this design...http://fishingnetwork.net/forum4/sho...to-quot-w-pics
