I have the smaller tank as well, I'll post a picture of that one also.

However you are first in line should the other sale fall off the table. Measure your Tankwell and I'll check to see if it would fit. I'm pretty sure we could make it work.

Hey Jimmy I was wondering where you got the battery cases at? Those aren't pelican box's, what are they?

Those are the Outdoor waterproof boxes sold at Walmart for around $10 in the fishing/camping section.

Interested but I have never been a fan of the external intake hose/pump. Do you have other designs with the pump on board with a scupper hose or something like that?

Bump, I have the Omega tank that I've been using ready if anyone wants it. $100 it's yours.

How did u get the box to stick to the tank? Just drill through and bolt it up? I might have to do this too

Hey jimmy about the tank I got mine set up like this. I had to pinch back the flow way down for the drain To keep up. Would this cause a problem with bait staying alive? Should I redo The drain to allow more flow? Thanks Attachment 13930

Without seeing the inside it looks like you may be running the risk of a dead bait plugging your drain, causing your tank to overfill. Putting the drain hose lower on the tank will give you a higher outflow rate. I would also drill overflow holes on the sides.

Plan on inflow rate being less than potential outflow rate. If you are draining from the bottom you will want them to be close to equal, keeping in mind that the increasing weight of water as the tank fills will increase the outflow proportianally. Putting a valve on your outflow will allow you to adjust it to get the right level in the tank and slow the outflow should your battery start to fade.

That said, I let mine drain out the sides (holes drilled) and out through the scuppers. Still working on the tank for my PA but will post pics when I am done. With teh amount of free time my two kids and wife allow that should be sometime in 2037 :doh:

Thanks a lot I will for sure drill those drain holes most likely by the handles. I was trying to have all my water drain out the scupper holes Hobie style lol my outback always sags and water collects in the storage area making it heavier... Like was mentioned, you don't want the bait to get into the drain tube, or plug it somehow. As long as you can keep your tank circulating well your baits will stay a live. I usually let the tank train into the tank well rather than add a drain tube. The problems I see with drain tubes is they get clogged, they snag on fishing line, and so I just use drain holes in the tanks.

Yeah u guys are right I didn't consider smaller bait getting through the elbow or getting stuck in it. I may just do the drain through holes then or make a screen for the elbow.. The overflow holes will be higher as you can see from the pic so it might work out good thanks for the input....sorry it's my first tank

You should make it as flush to the inside of the tank as you can.

Hey jimmy, how many holes are u putting in it to drain and where abouts are u putting the holes. I need to build one of these or just have you build me one.

I usually put about 4 to 5 holes depending on the rod holder location. Some want the 6 rod holder setup and some want the 3. So it all depends on where the Rod holders go, but there is plenty of drainage and I've never had a tank over flow on me doing it this way.

My buddy got a tank from JIm we used it last week. It worked great and keep all the bait alive no issues.

Is the omega tank a 40lb Vittel or a 60lb vittel? I currently have the 15lb like your smaller one and I was doing the math. The 15 lb is about 51 lbs with water in it. The 40 lb is about 119lbs with water in it. The 60lb is about 136lbs with water in it. How much of a difference would one notice with adding that weight to the yak? Just wondering if you would notice that weight. I'll probably still build one out of a 40lb vittel.

I Never thought about the weight. Mine is a L 12"x W 12"x H 9.75"=1404 cubic inches 1404 cubic inches / 231=6.08gal 6.08gal x 8.5Lbs =51.68lbs

231 is inches to gallons
8.5lbs is average weight of salt water.

I use the 40lb, I had a 60 at one time and it was O.K., but it was just too big for my taste. The only time I have ever notice the water weight is when water leaked into my kayaks but from other sources not the bait tanks. Usually when I'm paddling back into shore I pull the drain plug so that the water drains before landing. I also thing the weight of the water in the tank helped save me back in April when I was paddling in some very rough waters. Again, I honestly have not heard anyone complain about the extra weight.

If you run a drain tube put some small chicken wire over so that it doesn't get stuffed with small bait

Good advice, I only install drain tubes when someone requests them. I prefer not to have drain tubes because line can catch on them.

When I had this style tank, I put one of those thin folding cutting board inside to cover the bolt heads. This would also round out the corners so none of the fish would get trapped in the corners. Cheap and easy fix.
