Just bought a 8" spro bbz1 in the rainbow trout color and wanted to get a feel for the action. Never used a swim bait bigger than 4" before so this is quite the leap for me. First cast, a hawk swoops down and snatches it, I drag him in and before I could take a pic he let go and all I have now is his feather. Bait is intact but missing some paint
Pissed off I just start tossing the bait every which direction and eventually pulled in this after about an hour. Smile ear to ear the rest of the day:D:D
Wasn't supposed to fish today so ssshhhhhh

That's awesome. Must have been stoked!

I always wonder how many of the larger rainbow lures and plastics and have been victim to flying predators, seems like it'd be a regular occurrence. Great catch though, both the bird and the bass!

I guess its doing its job if I was able to trick a hawk haha. Yea I still can't stop smiling it was the most intense bass fishing moment for me. I hope it handles the stripers like that this weekend at lake mead

Every nice LMB. Good Job

William Novotny 03-19-2014 04:47 PM

That's a beaut right there. I was at mile square Park throwing an 8" Tylure trout and in one cast I had 2 cormorants and a pelican dive on it.

Great looking Large Mouth. Thanks for sharing.

blitzburgh 03-20-2014 07:09 AM

Nice bucketmouth! :cheers1: The baits these days are so damn life-like. A week or so ago on "Stoked on Fishing", they were skiff fishing Cedros. One of the guys (I think it was the Capt') thew out a hookless MC Swimbait and got a Raptor to swoop and grab it. Too cool!

What lake is that?

OEX Sunset Beach 03-20-2014 07:16 AM

nice LMB looks like an Osprey feather? they are well known for getting fooled by the big baits.

Wow that was weird, I replied to buddha like 5 seconds ago on this thread and it put my post on a completly different thread. Weird.
Anyways sorry buddha that's a south county secret.
And to OEX Sunset Beach, I think you are right about it being an osprey.

Hunters Pa 03-20-2014 08:26 AM

I think you need to get a rod built for chuckin those big baits and have that feather incorporated into the wrap

Amish Ed 03-20-2014 09:27 AM

That's a beauty alright. Congrats and thanks for sharing.

That's ok after looking in the background with those houses I know exactly where it is. I will see you on the lake!

If it's a secret you shouldn't post my friend/coworkers apartment balcony in your pics. :the_finger:

There aren't many lakes with houses or apartments on them. Then you go and narrow it to south county. It's safe with me.

Haha do you really know where it is? I've been putting bass in there for a while now and am glad to see that some are thriving

LawDog 03-20-2014 10:18 AM

I haven't fished it much but I'm familiar with the area.

I have been living in south county for over 20 years. Not many lakes with houses for sure pretty easy secret if you ask me.

Its definitely not a secret place but I don't like to put it up cause I'm trying to build something here and don't want it to be fished dry. I already lost the catfish pop that I put in there and I don't want the bass gone too

bus kid 03-20-2014 02:49 PM

looks like Santa Ana river lake. :D

CaliShark 03-20-2014 08:12 PM

You said you were stocking the lake...? where you getting the fish to stock with? Are you transplanting from another lake or getting them from a fishery?

I wonder how many people are tossing their aquarium fish in there, could be where those giant gold fish are coming from.

JeffB 03-20-2014 09:03 PM

Very Nice! I've been doing some LMB fishing lately looking for mama pig laying around her bed

One of my buddies has a private pond and allows me to take one bass a month to stock this one
