Congratulations on the Cherry-Poppin. That's a nice first yak yellow, good thing one of the big dogs didn't get a hold of it.

ful-rac 05-29-2014 08:45 PM

Congrats! Im sure many people hate you more now than before!

Well then, I guess you guys will start hating me a lot more in the next couple months. Put 12.5 hours on the water yesterday, and learned quite a bit.

And wouldn't mind sharing any info or fishing with any of you guys. I like seeing other people kill fish too.

Good fish, but you didn't say how many sea lions you caught.

Don't worry about posting the report, everyone knows spring has arrived and the fish are here. It happens every year.

Thanks.

YakDout 05-30-2014 08:06 AM

Had plenty of stolen fly lined baits.

I know there are at least a couple guys who appreciate a same day yellow report.

I felt I was obligated to post my first yellow from kayak.

Hell yeah congrats on your first! Share the love receive some hate, rinse and repeat. I for one appreciate the reports so post on. It not like I have the luxury to just up and leave work, snake your parking spot, and catch every last yellowtail in LJ. :p

I wish I could get out on the water this weekend - it's going to be decent weather.

Seeing other people's fish always gives me hope. :luxhello:

Way to go on your first. Conditions this weekend seem great all around.

YakDout 05-30-2014 09:36 AM

Will,

I now understand how you must have felt to lose that first one to a seal. I know you worked just as hard for that fish as I did for mine. You'll get one soon man

Yeah man, I went over my gear and now that I know the cranking power those little sx have, I'm gonna do my best to pump the next one into the yak in a hurry. I was bummed for a minute. Actually dreamed about it that night. But I'm stoked to gain some more knowledge about this elusive species and stoked to see my fellow anglers success. Keeps my motivation to get back out there going.

YakDout 05-30-2014 10:15 AM

Hooked mine on avet mxl with 65lb high vis yellow braid 40 pound flouro. I had over 250 yards of line and was almost spooled. Twice. I had to bump the drag up to full for nearly the whole fight. The fish wrapped me up in a little bit of kelp and it was still stuck on the fish when it was gaffed. Really fun on an 8' jigstick though.

Why do all of the pictures look like they were taken 28 years ago using one of these.

Pedant alert:
Let's not give seals a bad name. Sea lions are the obnoxious, bait and fish stealing, dock and moored boat sinking, pests.

Harbor seals are the ones that stealthily pop their head up in the kelp, see you and seem to say "OH SHIT" and split. Yes they do play w divers and have been known to tug at a fish on a game clip, but they are not the thieves sea lions are.

Harbor seals are also the ones that decided to move back into Children's pool. It isn't their fault that some militant huggers feel it is suddenly necessary to keep people off the beach now. We were all doing fine before the seal lady took up her cause.

So hate on sea lions --and seal ladies-- all you want, but give the seals a break.

We love and enjoy the harbor seals, much like the dolphins. Sea Lions need an open hunting season on them.

kaya_one 05-30-2014 12:34 PM

Nice going. I saw your avatar change when reading another post and was thinking...hmmm...he got one.

Iceman 05-30-2014 03:04 PM

Lost a few baits to sea lions today, no yellows in the AM that I saw.

Congrats on your first Yak YT, very nice:luxhello:

joe tuipala 05-30-2014 03:08 PM

Good Job Yakdout , dont worry about the La Jolla bogarts . They conplain when the waves are too big , my meal not hot , you post a caught fish , and so on . :cheers1: wait until you catch one of these:wsb: . I dont post fish because of the Bogarts

YakDout 05-30-2014 03:10 PM

Andy, I haven't formally met you, but that means a lot coming from you.

The only yellow I saw all day yesterday was the one I stuck. And I was on the water from 6am-630pm
