since its winter
and nobody wants to join me on the water .:the_finger:. i wanted to share an experiment i did . this experiment was testing knot strength . i wanted a knot that was quick and easy to tie leader and braid together while fishing on the kayak under adverse conditions. i was using a similar knot until i stumbled across this one . it is probably a mix or hybrid of multiple knots combined . i had not heard of it till recently . the name of it is berkley crystal knot. it seems to be holding at 100 % breaking strength . i am putting pictures together and will post them . enjoy .

Could we get a video ?

it broke well above connection
needless to say , off the shelf spools of mono are gonna test out at least the rated strength and above . i started with 15 lbs. of weight , then 17.5 lbs. , and then up to 20 lbs of weight . i was able to lift 20 lbs. of weights completely when it failed . this knot is easy to tie under adverse conditions ( ie bobbing around on plastic kayak ) and is very compact and strong . :reel:.

i was struggling with pics as it is
:D

its simple
make loop with mono , place braid through loop and wrap five times up , pinch and wrap five times down . insert tag end going out in same direction . moisten and snug down . needless to say wraps should over lap each other . the key is not to tight when making warps . information and videos can be found on web

Same knot I tie, I was just messing with you about the video :D

Great knot, I use this knot, but it has so many names:
Modified Albright Royal Polaris Alberto |
When are you fishing again? IM having trouble finding people to fish too.
|
nice
I'm going to have to try that one out.
I currently use no name knot or swivel for leader connection. Not all that fawn of the swivel if the rod has ceramic guides though. Eli |
I use this knot and like it. Small knot that goes through guides well

I use the shoelace knot and do a double knot of the bunny ears

Just like TJones said this knot is great and only really needs 5 or 6 wraps in each direction. What ever name you use for it, it is the easiest to tie and the strongest I have found. It's the only knot I use in all the braid to mono or fluorocarbon connections.

I do not usually fish braid, but when I do or others ask me to tie their braid to mono connection this is the only knot I use. Quick, easy and almost mako proof. |
Thanks for the heads up. I just tried it, and I love it. So much cleaner than the Uni to Uni. I've been having problems with the Uni to Uni causing backlashes as the knot went through the guides. I think this knot just fixed that problem.

There's cool apps for knot tying so you can have options or for practice.

Many names for the same knot
aka: John Collins Knot or Royal Polaris Knot
This video points out how to cinch this knot properly which was very helpful to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiSik3Jqs7M |
