12/23 Christmas comes early
 

Launched with Steveooo at first light. Easy timing on the surf with sets that you wanted to avoid. Tough bait, I only had 2 greenbacks after an hour and figured I'd start fishing and hope more came through. Pulled up my bait to check it and a cormorant swam at it. He missed it but would not let me drop it back down. I dropped the Sumo blue and white down. :jig: Right about the top of the tide. Deadsticked it for a minute and looking at the screen there were good marks coming across the bottom. Lifted the tip once and got tagged. Fish hunkered down and ran across the bottom before getting gassed and up for the floater gaff 30-35 pounder. :wsb: 110 feet.........stoked! Probably my last fish for 2014......maybe not :D

I brought the good camera to hopefully catch some whale shots, handed it off to Steve for this one, we are taking turns. :D

Nice fish. I launched right behind you guys. I had no problem making bait in by the kelp. But all I got was a bunch of bonitos. Pretty cool out there today, great conditions and lots of whales.

coolest part of this video is seeing me look at the fish finder and see the fish on the meter then hook up......second coolest part is the song :D

comical how gassed this fish was, it thought it was a boccaccio :D

Andy, every time I see a pic of you holding a nice fish, you remind me of my dad(hes been gone 12 yrs. now) he was a great outdoors man, always hunting and fishing for sport but with the intent of catching or shooting dinner for the family. The look on your face says it all. NICE FEEESH !

All you can really ask from La Jolla is that she gives you a chance. About 20 min after Andy hooked up, I had mine. Hooked up on a spanish mid column, right in the same area as Andy. Gnarly fight which kept me pinned sideways, and I never really could get up and down on it. There was a lobster trap nearby that the fish saw and started heading towards. I buttoned down the drag so the fish couldn't get another inch, and not long after that the hook pulls. Only needed about 10 or 15 more cranks on it too. Felt like a bruiser YT, but I suppose I can call it whatever I want since I didn't get it in :farmer:. Had one other bump and run on a greenback on the bottom, but was never able to set the hook on that one. That mac came up with telltale WSB marks.

I'm definitely going to try to sneak in one more trip to the jewel to get the most out of my 2014 license.
