Jan 18th San O WCW Jackpot/Awards/Potluck

This Sunday!!! It is looking like 70s and 2-3 footers and the 2014 3 Kings have decided to get together and fish the spot that kicks out winning fish. BWE and OEX are going to supply and grill up pollo asada. For the potluck we are asking for the rest, tortillas, salsa, queso, drinks, plates etc. Gates open at 6 am jackpot finish at 1pm with potluck lunch to follow.

Sign up here and list what you are bringing for the potluck.

This is cross posted on BWE and Baytubers, will update both on the list of who is going.

Ill bring tortillas and some drinks.

Zed 01-14-2015 10:31 AM

Whos in charge of video?

Iceman 01-14-2015 11:03 AM

Com on Zed, don't scare off any would-be jackpot contributors, I plan to launch and land without any surfing involved. 2-3 footers SHOULD be cake. :D

I am manning the grill and will raise the ante with Wanda's world renown decadent brownies.

ful-rac 01-14-2015 11:09 AM

I'll bring plates and napkins...How many do you think we will need?

No camera I'll let someone else do that...

rossman 01-14-2015 12:05 PM

I'm in with chips and salsa

Iceman 01-14-2015 12:12 PM

If you are worried about the surf, bring some surf fishing stuff just in case. If it is as good a forecast as stated, get there 5:30-5:45 latest to make sure you get in. $15 parking, so car pool if you want to save some money.

mrJB 01-14-2015 02:22 PM

Too short notice for me. Andy, you know that 2' - 3' will make for some interesting landings ;) :D   ...

GregAndrew 01-14-2015 03:09 PM

NOAA Marine forecast has W and S swells at 1' and wind less than 5mph for Sun. A minus tide at landing time should also be good for killing the surf there, but be ready to walk your yak in over the reef. And land with your drive out, unless you have it rigged weedless :D.

GregAndrew 01-14-2015 03:11 PM

And a few days before the new moon could be very interesting out there :D.

Zed 01-14-2015 03:38 PM

Smaller than a sewer wake.

steveooo 01-14-2015 04:07 PM

Sounds like a hoot. I'll bring cheese and a case of H20 :cheers1:

There seems to be yellows all up and down the coast in the 200 to 300ft range. Newport is killing them just south of the harbor. Half day out of Dana had a dozen today and they can't make the box on a half day. Seaforth had 90 today.

SorryCharlie 01-15-2015 07:56 AM

The dana boats have been catching yellows along the entire stretch from the SC pier down to Box canyon in 200-300 ft.

I really want to try and hit it, but from what I heard it is all metered schools they stop on, so it may require some serious ground coverage. Also, a definite surf launch. I am interested in making the shorter run to Box canyon to see if they are still around in reasonable numbers there.

Zed 01-15-2015 08:57 AM

That "Box Canyon" area is a good hour plus commute from the launch. Probably more. Getting out to 50ftm straight out from SanO is still pretty far, maybe half to 45min. Lots of options. Dont want to sway anyone since theres $$$ and smack at stake.

Im in but still undecided on menu.

GregAndrew 01-15-2015 10:46 AM

There are certainly nice fish as close as the surf there. Paddle to the right depth, for YT, is going to be about the same as the NW Corner at LJ. Then you need to find em. A group spanned out, looking for baitballs might be just the ticket. First guy has to play his fish till the others converge though lol.

Lipripper92592 01-15-2015 10:55 AM

I have a feeling this is going to be an EPIC day for some~

ful-rac 01-15-2015 10:57 AM

Maybe rossman can get steevoo to give up his halibut spot for the rest of us....

rossman 01-15-2015 11:08 AM

That might be a little underestimated Greg. I have a spot just outside the last kelp almost straight out from the launch and it is 2.25 miles from the launch and the area where the squid were last year is . 5 to..75 miles beyond that and you are still less than 75 ft of water. Not sure of the distance to the NW corner but I would estimate less than 2 miles. But like you said lots of options. I finished last year with a 30 pound flatty less than 200 yards from the truck. Really going to be interesting to see what this group comes up with.

Could someone please post a picture from
google maps to show where this is thanks.
Maybe circle where you park and launch from.

erinoo 01-15-2015 12:30 PM

Been under the weather but I'll play. Drinks, and something good to eat from costco.

cabojohn 01-15-2015 01:31 PM

*I will bring the shotgun for the start of the event since Troy has the video / media handled.

2-3' surf at Lake SanO...is almost flat like conditions.
I'll know for sure if I am going to make it Saturday evening after I check the surf report again? I suffer from IMAWUSS-ITUS and may just watch from the peanut gallery.:D
Edit
**Pasta Salad** :):)

T-Rex 01-15-2015 01:37 PM

Count me in! I'll bring black beans.

I don't have a halibut spot. I have Rossman's halibut spot, which is even better. Should be a fun day!

:aetsch:

Iceman 01-15-2015 01:47 PM

Nice! this is shaping up like a master class :D 2-3 foot surf never seems to look the same from day to day, but the cool thing about San O is there is not a lot of punch in the waves there unless it is a huge day, especially at Old Man's where we launch and land.

crazyfishnfool 01-15-2015 09:51 PM

IM IN

The boss just gave me a pass. I will see you guys there. I will bring some type of deserts.:reel:

Deamon 01-16-2015 03:16 AM

Damn wish I could go...

GregAndrew 01-16-2015 03:17 PM

As soon as Basilone Rd. narrows to one lane, take the next right. If you see a line of cars at the stop sign, turn right and go to the end of the line. If no line, then straight thru the stop sign to the gate. Follow the road past the millitary campsite all the way to the South end of the dirt parking lot.

jorluivil 01-16-2015 03:42 PM

No way I can go

1. I already have an 'I almost died story at San O'
2. I'm on call and have to be available as soon as the phone rings
3. I almost died at San O

Damn, I really overestimated the distance to the NW Corner didn't I lol. Must be because of the South bound current that is always going when I come back from there.

yak-fishing-socal 01-16-2015 06:08 PM

Son o isn't that bad and am is so easy it's like glass in the morning. there are two sets of waves and its all about timing I'll get out just past the first set and then paddle left in between the two breaks and then when its clear I just paddle out...really 2'/3' isn't bad for San o...

On another note if I'm able to go how much is it to play?
Jackpot? And what can I bring potluck? I'm 85% sure I can go..
Damn still need my new fishing license

Iceman 01-17-2015 06:38 AM

$10 jack pot and bring whatever you like for the pot luck

yak-fishing-socal 01-17-2015 01:46 PM

I'm in. Do sharks count?
