GONZAGA in OCTOBER
JUST in from Brandon, YakDout
regarding gonzaga That Oct weather was too perfect for me to pass up this year BOB. Regardless if I make it down to abreojos in august I am in for any trip to gonzaga bay in the month of october. And if there is no trip set up yet, I propose a Trip down to your paradise. I know that Mike will be in and Im sure you will easily fill the rest. October 17-24 is what I propose. What do you think? Already anticipating our conversations about baja while drinking a pacifico at your paradise. Last year this trip produced 100 fish days, Rooster fish, and one lucky [good] guy got 30 tails one day. Dorado too. This trip will be from 17-24 October and I might stay a few extra days to hit the full moon on the 27th. ALL ABOARD!!! |
Ok well I guess Im in for this one. Can't wait!:jig:

:reel::cheers1::luxhello:
I'll know if I can go when we get closer to October. Still dreaming about that place. Same feelings I had when I went to Disney Land for the first time as a child. |
I forgot how good you guys did last year at that time.
Hmmmm thinking..... |
Hmmmm
Gives a mermaid ideas....

Stand-by list
I'm interested but I will keep my name off the list for now so those that haven't been down there will have a chance to sign up.
|
Would like to go, PM sent

Robert, aka Mr Puka Shell, you are in.
Brandon, aka YakDout, you are in. Sven, aka Svendawg you are always in. Jeff, aka Buddha you are in. Danjor you are in. Jack, aka Defjack you are in. SoCalKayak you are in. THIS should be the best trip of the year. |
I know this is pretty far in advance, but If anyone is on the fence about going down due to driving in Mexico, let me know. Depending on location I am more than willing to take your kayak and gear. Always helps to split gas. I am in temecula. Thanks!

Sounds good. Oct in gonzaga sounds like paradise. I'll know closer if I'm able to go.

Oh man, don't get me started on waxwings in gonzaga. The quickest 2 consecutive $34 casts I've ever made.... They work to answer your question

Let's just say that any size will work, but I got bit frequently on the big 20 ft depth yo zuris. And the xrap magnum 30. Nothing is too big as far as Rapalas.
|
Can anyone show me on a map where gonzaga bay is? I couldnt find it on my phone. And is it close to bahia de los angeles?
|
North of Bahia de Los Angeles.

I'm intrested. I wanted to get on a trip last year but never did. This is a long way out and I don't know what the future holds but I would like to go
|
Thanks Bob and Brandon.:notworthy:
I have 4-5 of each of the Rapalas & in different colors, they're part of my LR multi-day trip kits. I'll have to check into large Crocs. I assume the same wire for Wahoo [single strand (48#+) and multi-strand] will work for these trips? FFY :sifone: |

Are YOU sure you were forgotten or maybe this old man hit the wrong button?
Or? NOW you are on the list. |
Any of the guys who are going, or wanting to, an easy tool is to subscribe to this thread via email. If anytime someone posts to the thread, you will get an instant email. Any of you first timers to Baja kayak fishing and pick this trip, it will definitely keep you coming back. Makobob and robmoney have a real paradise down in gonzaga with awesome fishing and a great time. You will not be disappointed with either. I owe much gratitude to bob and rob for the constant invites down to fishing paradise. Cannot thank you both enough for the knowledge and hospitality. 🍻

My best advise it to bring lot of them with a least 24" to 36" wire leaders Those sierra were a blast but they took a lot of my silver/chrome |
My experience is the fish bite on anything and everything in Baja.
If you have a set up that you're really comfortable throwing jigs and own several jigs, bring that, you'll do well. If on other hand you use swimmers like rapala, waxwings etc, bring that set up and use it. You'll have a 100 fish day. If the fly is what you excel with, you can't lose. What I'm trying to say is, "fish the same way, same rig, same technique, and same lures that works best for you here, and you have unbelievable days there". Last year I made five lures from metal crate straps, and lost all but one to fish. They were crummy workmanship and looked awful. Just get your favorite type of lure in the water and hold on to your rod. Do it your way and you'll have excellent days with sore arms. Then you'll have plenty of time to rest your arms from all that pulling while learning a new technique from others down there with you. |
Mind if I ask where gonzaga is? Are we talking ensenada? You guys get roosters there?!

|
Gonna have to take my name off the list for this one, something has been presented to me that i need to save for. Perhaps next year.

The last trip in October last year was a once in a lifetime trip for those lucky to go last year. Just ask them how good it was and you probably will not believe it. |
