FISH11 02-21-2016 08:52 PM

Congrats, good to hear that there's still some action out there if one persists. Enjoy the great bounty.

W -

I believe that's your forth YT this year at DP, something I don't think has been accomplished by any past kayaker.

I guess that makes you the MAN, at least for a while! :luxhello: :notworthy: :luxhello:

Nice post and great fish.
Way to stick with it and put in your time!

Zed 02-22-2016 08:59 AM

Congrats! Nice fish. Wish there was vid of the take. That first significant run by an unexpected fish --nobody catches YT outside of LJ. My PB CA YT is from DP and my first yak YT from Laguna. OC represent.

steveooo 02-22-2016 09:38 AM

Heck Ya! OC yt taste better than the southern variety :cheers1:

Flyline or 3-way - how deep of water?

Great catch...

GregAndrew 02-22-2016 04:02 PM

Sweet! I am surprised we did not see the numbers of YT this winter that we saw last year on the rockfish spots up north of SD?

roby 02-22-2016 07:21 PM

Most yakkers keep hush-hush about yellowtail caught outside of La Jolla. Good on you for sharing. Nice catches!!

Vikingj 02-23-2016 02:55 PM

Thanks for the responses and encouraging comments. It was very nice to meet Momo, Kevin, and... (didn't catch the 3rd name). Very friendly, experienced, and helpful guys that it would be a pleasure to fish w in the future. Thanks for the use of your scale.
YT Where, how, what, etc.? Fish So. OC 35-100ft depth, used dropper loop rig, 1-4 oz weight, 30# mono leader, braid back line, greenback mac bait. Four YT taken this Fall and winter at various depth (20-90ft) in water column, both near structure and away from any structure. Basically they are where you find them and that changes from day to day and hour to hour. Go get 'em and Good luck!

do you typically spend a lot of time moving around and monitoring your FF before you drop? Or will you just pick a spot and start dragging the bait?

SorryCharlie 02-24-2016 07:09 PM

Very nice fish Wayne!

See you at the next fish with friends tourney?

Vikingj 02-26-2016 04:22 PM

Carbonbass - I seldom see big game on the ff. I seek out structure and/or bait and fish one line low and/or one high in the water column and spend hrs dragging back and forth
