WSB RELEASE Saturday 3-12

It's that time again...our babies have outgrown their tanks in Redondo and they need to be set free to head down to La Jolla to be caught by Deamon.
These are some big fish, averaging at least 12" long...these are some of the biggest WSB I've ever released.
We'll need a bunch of vollunters. Since the fish are so big we can only net 4 fish at a time to transfer to the mobile tank...and it's going to take most of the day to net and transfer all 3000 fish to the harbor.
I'm not sure of the start time yet...so I'll post it as soon as I get it. My advise would be to spread out your arrival times to last during the day so that we don't have a bunch of volunteers in the morning and then run out of help later in the day.
The growout tanks are at the SEA LAB facilities in King Harbor across the street from the power-plant off of Harbor Drive and Yacht Club Way...just tell the parking attendant you are there for the WSB release and he'll let you park in the lot free.
I'll be at the OEX Demo Day in Sunset Beach working for Hobie so I can't make it...I would appreciate it if someone would take some photos for our CCA newsletter.

Yeah I'll be there!

For all that we take from the ocean, sometimes we have to give back once in awhile.

Will do whatever I can to help.

Jay...said...
"Hey man, a bit confused. Are you loading them in a truck and driving them to LJ for an easy transfer or is the facility right next to the harbor."

Sorry Jim/Deamon we won't be delivering the fish directly to your house :D :D

The fish are netted at the Redondo Beach/King Harbor grow-out pools (we have about 1500 fish in each pool) then transfered to a tank on a truck and once the tank is full of fish (about 500 or so) the truck travels about 200 yards to the docks near-by which are adjacent to an access road.
We connect that white pipe that you see in the photos to the tank, start a pump, and get some water rushing down with the fish as they are released into King Harbor.

What it's like

If you haven't volunteered releasing seabass before this is what it's like. Hope to see some other BWE members this saturday to help out.

Guys, if you plan on attending please remember that the work area is extremely tight, having people(especially kids) hanging around makes it difficult to work. It's cool that parents like to bring their little ones but when you're trying to setup nets/crowders around the pen people that are there to watch to do more harm than good.

Deamon 03-09-2016 10:55 AM

Jim!

With grateful sincerity...THANK YOU and others for your efforts on this program. What used to be a "once in a lifetime catch" may soon become...dare I say...regular catches for all! :notworthy:

Jim Kelley

Saba Slayer 03-09-2016 07:41 PM

Thanks Deamon

Thanks Jim / Deamon...it works for me...I'll put em in and you take em out:cheers1:

Team Sewer will be there as soon!!

Early bird gets the best parking spot.

Saba Slayer 03-10-2016 08:16 AM

Start time...10am Saturday

We'll be starting at 10am on Saturday.

This was taken from an e-mail I received today from Hubbs...
"Based on tank volume and our best estimate of size, it looks like it will take 6 loads (3 for each of your tanks) to get all the fish out. We only have 1 tank available that has large enough drain fitting to accommodate these large fish. We will be renting a trailer to tow the tank up there."
"Sat. March 12 around 10 AM Hubbs will arrive, depending on traffic. We will need some volunteers to help. Netting fish will happen a little later since we have to fill Hubbs tank with water. Due to size of fish will take 5 or more hours. So those who might want to come later is good. Same story, we net fish, bring to tank, when full drive down to F dock and release them. Hubbs is bringing a electric pump to help fill their tank, some nets, big green net, clickers, hose, etc."

I know Tony and Jorge are kinda down on having kids in the work area...but please bring them and have them watch the process or help net the fish if they're old enough.
Kids of all ages love to see the fish released into the harbor. We need to include the little ones as that's our fishing future...!
All are welcome...!
Thanks for your help...:notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

I thought Tony was legally prohibited from being alone with kids.

Maybe wiggleworm or luv2tug can spend some time with him

My son has a soccer game right in the middle of that time in Brea. Looks like we are out.

momo fish 03-10-2016 10:46 AM

Learning from the best !!!

Once or twice? You gotta be the only Asian guy I know not good at math... Been helping for a few years.. I just don't brag about it 😊😊😊

Still love you the way I love Taco Bell burritos... Enjoy it at the moment but always end up taking a big dump later..

WSB RELEASE Saturday 3-12

You gotta be able to take what you dish... Thought that was rule number 14 for team sewer..

But promote away.. We don't want to encourage the next generate or anglers/conservationist by showing or exposing them to these programs you know cause they may get in the way..

Actually I'll just have them watch the videos..

Like I said.. Still love you Tony!

ful-rac 03-10-2016 12:18 PM

This is obviously a big joke to you isn't it momo...

It's not my job nor anybody else's job to teach your kids to be anglers or conservationists...that's up to you. Don't let us stop you from volunteering, bring you kids too, have them get in the way...we don't speak for the program. Since we've done it a time or two we seen what can happen when young kids try to help...yeah they get in the way. Does that make me an asshole for pointing that out? I guess it does...

momo fish 03-10-2016 12:45 PM

When you opened your mouth and started dictating who can or cannot come you at that point started talking for the program.. And trust me your the last person I would want them to emulate...

My point is for this or other events I would not discourage kids from volunteering for a program that's meant to benefit there future.. Isn't the whole point is to preserve fishing for future generations which is ironic since you think they "get in the way".. Can I assume you have kids and are speaking from experience?

Glad we agree on the last point.. 😊

Shit, there goes my chances of making the team. Luv2tug chances just increased..

I'm going to have to agree with Momo on this one. This definitely benefits the future of fishing........

I agree Momo but.......................I said what I said based on what I’ve seen and nothing else. Can you bring your kids? Sure, be my guest but please make sure they do not get in the way. I wasn’t trying to be an a-hole about this but when you see kids netting 10-15 fish at a time and dropping half of them on the floor and half of those falling between the cracks and into the abyss it defeats the purpose. I apologize, but again, I’m saying this based on experience and nothing else. I recall seeing Momo’s kid in the mix and he was never in the way. Why? I’m guessing it’s because it wasn’t his first rodeo.

Again, my apologies...............since I'm not the one in charge of the program I will no longer comment on this.

Are we still roll'n with this...? Ok..

I feel like trump here...

I didn't dictate anything to anyone...I'm a volunteer, and I'm speaking from experience. I'm not discouraging kids from getting involved at all. In this instance, where fish need to be transferred quickly and efficiently and safely from one above ground tank to a tank on top of a flatbed truck, smaller kids cannot physically do what is required.

Yes we are doing this for future generations, that is why I want it to be as successful as possible, it's for your kids and everyone else's kids. Believe it or not, it's not because we want to "brag" that we did it. We don't have to volunteer for anything momo...we really don't, but we do. Do we have to support HOW programs...no we don't...Do we have to support other special causes no, but we do. Team Sewer puts it's money where it's mouth is constantly to support the community and it's causes, I guess i'm not surprised you question that.

In all seriousness we all want to accomplish the same thing here. I realize you take offence to what I said, and if you felt it was directed primarily at you and your kids...well it wasn't. In fact from what I remember your kids stayed out of the way for the most part.

Wow...this is getting long winded.....I feel like jimday...

I'll explain to you why I have this opinion, you get 1 kid by himself netting seabass 4 or 5 at a time like he's supposed to...fine. When you get more than 1 kid, you just turned it into a competition. Now the seabass are being netted 20 at a time. Did this happen? Yes it did. Did seabass get damaged a a result? You betcha! The point is that we release them in the best possible condition, so to give them the best possible chance for survival. Otherwise were just really wasting our time.

Whew!

ful-rac 03-10-2016 02:40 PM

The great thing about this is that everyone knows about the WSB release...;)

Rain or shine we'll be there

ful-rac 03-11-2016 01:51 PM

It should be fine tomorrow...I guess we'll see. Your coming down for it?

theluckypig 03-11-2016 08:14 PM

stop it... all you dudes love each other...

i think the issue is that kids do get in the way if they are participating for long periods of time... i let my kids participate for a short time (10 mins), they get bored, then i tell them they're done, and stay out of the way... they helped... and i stay and help as long as i can... but with kids my time is limited...

now, from tony's and jorge's perspectives, they spend the whole day there, from beginning to end... and it is work... efficiency is key in making the day go well...

both can work... just be reasonable...

love,

theluckypig & piglets...

ful-rac 03-12-2016 06:26 PM

Thanks BWE members!

Thanks to the fellow BWE members that showed up today to support the seabass release. We had some trouble today getting started initially...due to several different factors.... but we eventually got a rhythm going and started to work really well by the end of the day. Even some kids helped out today! actually they did a great job. Mom and dad were overseeing them working and made sure they were doing things right.

We were successful in releasing about 3000 WSB that were pretty nice size, at least 12" but many exceeding 12"s. They looked very healthy and strong, I'm pretty optimistic about their survival into catchable legal size seabass for not only us but future anglers.
