Cooking while on the water
Anyone ever done it? I have some ideas on how to do it, but most of them are too close for comfort given the fact that a heat source would be next to my thighs.

Some dude uses a small bbq grill on his yak. There is a pic of him cooking hotdogs on it. I'm sure someone will find it and post it.:)
|
I think I saw someone post a picture of the Fishing Magician with a small barbeque on the kayak. That looked insane!

Brad (MadScientist) used to grill on his kayak

paddle down the lineup and sell TJ dogs

Cut some tomato, onion, jalapeno, cilantro, put in container. Bring a few limes... then cut fresh fish, mix it up with the lime juice a little salt and pepper and boom. Fresh Ceveche. Bag of chips and you are golden. That's how we usually roll if we want to cook on the water.

I guess you could use a jet boil. I use one for hiking but I already bring a whole yard sale with me out on the yak, don't need anything else. My girl would be pissed if I got the Jet Boil rusted out from ocean water.

I think I saw that picture before. That's where I got the idea from.

If you are after hot food, get some MRE's. They have packets that will heat stuff up and you wont drown trying to eat... or just make a sandwich and send it.
|
get a thermos/hydroflask and fill with boiling water. pack a couple of hot dogs and buns and condiments. an hour before you want to eat just drop the hot dogs in your thermos/hydroflask. let the hotdogs warm up then enjoy. haha

sounds stupid

How about doing your taxes on water? Let's say it's a slow day on the water and you want to be productive. Has anyone done this?

Pizza
Buy pizza to eat while you are prepping the night before and eat leftovers for breakfast and lunch. You can put pieces of the crust on sabiki hooks for bait.
Kills a lot of birds with one stone. |

was looking for pics of Brad's setup but it looks like the links to his old photos are broken. If I remember correctly, he had a sterno-based grill. Easy enough to light & extinguish with the lid. he would make grilled fish sandwiches and tacos on the water with fresh caught fish.

Here it is...

I like my beer cold, not cooked.
If you so feel that there is no other option, use a jet boil. I've cooked using jet boils on the side of cliffs in a bivy many times. |
I think it was called a Cobb Grill.
I might have enjoyed a bratwurst or two back in the day. And, the good doctor never suffered through a warm beer.:D Tough to beat a fast cup of coffee on a mountain adventure, compliments of Jetboil and Via:luxhello: |
