My first Yellowtail!
My first report on Big Water's Edge. This is my first ever Yellowtail from my kayak. I was long-lining a 6" MC Swim bait with a Matzuo head in about 140 ft. of water. He bit just off the bottom. I tried irons and droppper-loop frozen squid for nothing. The swim bait works again! Go figure.

Congrats on your 1st, very nice fish!
TO many more to come :cheers1: |
It has been more than nine months since you first introduced me to kayak fishing on the bay. Thank you for that. Since then, I have spent most of my time in the ocean. I was fortunate enough to catch my first YT last summer off LJ and can still remember the thrill. The bad news is the the two little fish that I caught that day probably did not weigh as much together as your beautiful fish. Way to go Wayne.
Santa brought me some nice new iron which I hope to try out very soon. See you on the water. Bob |

Nice cherry popper, Wayne!
The best part of catching Yellowtail on swimbaits is the fact that they inhale them, as long as you tie a good knot they will make it yak-side. I bet you were a little nervous when you saw color .... "please stay on, please stay on, please stay on" :D.
YOU WILL REMEMBER THIS FISH FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. :cheers1: |
I can only imagine........must be nice, real nice to get that first. Nice job!
|
Awesome! you must be pumped!

|
Very nice!
Nicely done!

nice work!

Nice job, I have never caught a YT on a swimbait! Will b. would be proud of the longlining method! :p
|
Thanks Darkhorse
Thanks Darkhorse, it was your recent posts that helped motivate me to go out after them. Then I saw you at the beach in the morning going out, and I was even more pumped. I had a little extra boost of confidence knowing you were going to be out there too. When he got to the surface, he pretty much rolled over and gave up, so I wasn't worried then. I was praying more when he was about halfway up. That's when he went on his mightiest runs. I can only imagine what a 35 to 40 pounder feels like!

Excellent Job! I am still waiting for mine.I fished LJ for the 3rd time yesterday.I saw you at the launch.I have a wheat colored Big Game.
I Yo-yoed till my yo yoer broke.I did manage a legal Barracuda which I though was odd for this time of year.I would go more often, but I live 100 miles away. |
Way to go on your first. It's all down hill from here. Just kidding......the thrill never goes away.
|
YEAH WAYNE!!!!
It was only a matter of time... Good job man! |
Congrats! Sweet :yt: on the plastic!

... you never forget your first YT. I remember being so excited I almost hurled. Nobody else was around to share the moment, so I just kind of sat there and twitched in a weird YT trance...
NICE ONE :sifone: |
