A red tide in La Jolla is brewing...

Just when I was starting to have some
fun with the new jig-stick, the slightest
change in the water temp has brought on
my worst fears. Some spots of tea colored
water through the reserve extending to
the east side of the squid grounds.

Man that really sucks. just when things start to look good and you can make a game plan for a day's fishing mother nature throws a curve ball from hell. O well guess that life

dorado50 03-14-2009 05:12 PM

Well not exactly hell.................:sifone:

dorado50 03-14-2009 09:45 PM

Maybe the water is too cold for a red tide? Maybe not....

wildcat 03-15-2009 08:32 AM

???

Does anyone know the difference between red tide and just some dirty water???? It seems over the past couple of years that any dirty water that flows into our area is labled "red tide" but is it really??? I can't believe that all dirty water is red tide....thoughts???

Dan 03-15-2009 08:49 AM

sometimes it's just off color but many times we do get a real red tide with rusty water and glow in the night phosphorescence, usually in the spring there is a bloom once the water hits ~60. Good thing about it in La Jolla is that is is usually patchy because of all the water moving in and out of the area more than other spots---many other areas (like north county) it can just camp out and sit for weeks...

fishchaser25 03-15-2009 08:53 AM

Ya one of the coolest things is to go down to the beach when there is a full on red tide and watch the phosphorescence light up the waves.

fishchaser25 03-15-2009 08:54 AM

O and red tide or not im going fishing on friday:reel::biggrinjester::wsb:

Been here for barely a month (if even that long) and his first post to boot.

Johnp 03-15-2009 10:29 AM

Tell us Josh, do you think it is possible to catch fish with conditions such as they are.......?

Well, kinda shitty first post...but looked like BS to me. I'm over on Baytubers, you can find some of my posts there. I would like to add a little value on BWE though since I have been fishing LJ more often than usual lately.

Thanks for noticing...

Brian

THE DARKHORSE 03-15-2009 02:02 PM

A red tide was brewing in La Jolla...

But, it passed with the swift morning current a few minutes after I slid my game clip through her gills.

gary sullivan 03-16-2009 07:26 AM

Josh, after seeing that there were two pages of dialog about red tide I knew something was amiss. I only hope your triple chin fish is a preview of what the rest of us will soon enjoy. Good work in the kelp. :wsb:

I took that picture on shore so I knew he had the fish....just trying to give him a lead in.

Corey 03-16-2009 07:09 PM

Nice one. First H&L from LJ I've seen this year.

roosta 03-16-2009 10:21 PM

What a beaut! Well done Josh!

esdees 03-17-2009 03:20 PM

Sweet! Get 'em boys!

lamb 03-17-2009 04:00 PM

Nice fish Josh!

Do tell the weight, looks mighty.

Trout 03-17-2009 05:25 PM

My vote is for a new face. It looks like this :arne1: but it is a horse's face... perhaps dark in color... and it says "Josh" instead of Arne. Can Mr. Administrator arrange that for me, please? I'd greatly appreciate it.

flip4i 03-18-2009 02:04 PM

Making my first trip to LJ this friday. I'll use this to inspire me for the long drive from OC. Thanks!

bellcon 03-18-2009 05:17 PM

It's one thing to catch a fish that can cause a "Bloody Deck"
But it takes a special kind of fish to create a "Red Tide"

Congrats Josh
