Julie takes a mulligan!!!!!!!!!!

Went north for some action...so here's the story...
After 5 successful trips of catching legal halibut, we thought we'd try for one more before the storms came in.
Picked up sardines and headed to Doheny. We usually fish on weekdays, but made it out before the crowd. A very good tide change (+8-foot), plus some of the conditions we've had good luck with before had us hoping for good things to come.
Bait (sardines) were much smaller than usual, but alive none the less.
At about 7:30AM, high tide, Julie starts fighting the beast (46.8lbs on a certified scale): Aaron, relagated to deckhand/guide provided all the assists, coaching, cuttting lines, etc. After 20 minutes or so, up comes the 1st barndoor.

Aaron encourages Julie to keep fishing, telling her there can be another barndoor out there for either of us. Less than 30 minutes after she is back in the water, she blows her whistle for Aaron's assistance. He comes, not believing it could be another barndoor, but taking all the necessary precautions, cutting lines, etc. Finally her 2nd fish of a lifetime comes up (34.0lbs).

One bitchen' day for the 2 of us.
We realize it is one of her catch of a lifetime days. And we will be blown away for days to come.
Here's the cheesy driveway photo of them both:

Awesome !!!! Great Catches!!!!

Jim Sammons LJKF 02-27-2006 06:35 AM

I just checked my IGFA record book, and indeed you do have an IGFA womens record. No matter what size line you were using 2-80lb test you have them all broken with the 46 lber. the next biggest was 42 lbs 14 oz on 12lb test.
The record will of course depend on whether you followed the IGFA rules. I hope you were not using a treble hook, not legal in IGFA.
Please give me a call if you would like more information on the rules or would like the proper forms for submitting the catch. I can fax them over to you.

ski 02-27-2006 06:40 AM

Congrats on a truly spectacular catch!

aguachico 02-27-2006 07:07 AM

Right on Jim. That would be great if Julie gets a record.

A nd J, yous' guyz are kicking some serious ass... or BUTT.

Watch out, I suspect some company soon!!!

Sorry Julie, please report to the DFG to pay your fine for not having updated stickers on your yak. :P

MKNOTT 02-27-2006 10:22 AM

WOW Jules. You got a sister? Great Job.

Dennis 02-27-2006 10:35 AM

Julie needs to get "Picture of the Week"!!! :D I still can't get over the size of those things, Julie.

T-Rex 02-27-2006 10:36 AM

DANG :!: I've seen some pretty nice flatties caught at Dana Point over the years, but I don't recall ever seeing anything even coming close to that first monster! Also, I'm not so sure about the "catch of a lifetime" stuff...for most people yes, but Julie's got halibut fishing wired! At the rate she and Aaron are catching flatties I wouldn't be surprised if we see the dynamic duo post few more slabs this year!!!

Mr Mugu 02-27-2006 11:16 AM

Catch of a lifetime or not....Aaron, get Julie to pick some numbers for the Lotto....heck take her to Vegas!!!
CONGRATS!!!

LocoKayako 02-27-2006 12:13 PM

Incredible you two. Wow is all I can say.

So what did you name them????
