Wow...could've been more of a "blast" with a release. I mean really...how much meat came off that "pup"? Just saying...

Decent size! If I knew then what I know now I would of never have killed the one I did. It is very thrilling to catch a large fish from a kayak ,without a doubt, but the release is much...much more satisfying! Try it next time. That thresher I killed five yrs. ago still wakes me up at nite! Will the haunting ever go away?. Anyway, congrats.......

Congrats on the catch! You took a legal fish, the people giving you grief should direct their whining at the DFG. We get regulations from the DFG, not from anonymous posters on the internet.

And your feelings towards killing your small thresher are based on your opinions. There are plenty of theories to suggest that taking smaller sharks is better than taking a breeder out of the ecosystem. I'm not saying he's right, but I'm not saying you're right either.

also, I believe the DFG commission is the one who sets the take/limit rules, exc...the same commission that is about ready to admit that they failed at managing california's fisheries by voting to implement the most extreme MPA maps. I've been to one commission meeting where there was a small group of guys (who have been at this for years now) trying to get shark size and take limits implemented, but as usual the commercial long line/gill net lobbiest's effectively plugged the commissioners ears. Make no mistake, the commissioners votes will go to the highest bidder. :the_finger: those guys.

IMO, there should be a slot limit.

I also plan on harvesting legal fish so long as the meat does not go to waste.

...and wouldn't post up any thresher harvest because you are damed regardless of size by either the "it is too small" or the "it is too big" crowd.

I call bullshit on the internet thresher-huggers. Some say only keep the pups, some say only the breeders??? Kayak fisherman are the last threat thresher-huggers need to be concerned about, it's a self limiting threat. There are not that many people who can actually land a thresher on a kayak, certain members of this board excluded.

I attended many of the MLPA meetings and Surfrider meetings and two city council meetings fighting the MLPA. I didn't see a single one of you thresher-huggers there, just saying.

But I'll have a cold beer ready for you if I meet you on the water!

All I was giving was "my experience on tsharks",not saying what anyone else should or should not do! I made a mistake but that doesn't mean anyone else is. I don't really give a rats ass who kills what! Some very quick to pull the trigger on ones lifes experiences. Sad indeed.

Nice catch! It tast great on the grill. I remember when I posted my first T shark on this board I caught all kinds of hell. I will say there are guys in LJ that are keeping more than their share of T's every year. It's an every other year thing for me. In 2011 I'll keep one, and post it. So :the_finger: to the T huggers!

For you idiots out there, unless you are not keeping your YT or WSB or calicos ETC, why are you telling people to release? How much fish can a kayaker haul compared to a ship netting Billions of pounds of shark? Do you watch Tv, discovery channel etc? Thats my opinion
