6/7 LJ: No circle hooks...
...or bait needed :D
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...619/6-7yt1.jpg I decided to head straight out at 4:45 AM. 1-2 foot long intervals made easy in and outs. Dragged a pair of Rapalas. Had a relentless big knothead shadowing me. About a mile out and some puddlers are 20 yards in front of me and sure enough $#!+head is right behind. I throw anyway and as the iron comes by, they light up a bit, but sink out. Decide to wait a bit and see if they pop up again. See some bait jump and a boil. Iron in midair and another boil just inside of where it lands. Three cranks on the Jimmi (that just sounds wrong :D ) and BENDO! The dog was there through it all and at one point thought for sure he was diving down for my fish. Somehow I got the fish on with a fell swoop gaff, through the fish and in my lap in one motion, 5:45AM :D Saw a few more single fish boil and had one follow the jig, but nothing more. I decided to head in and saw one more boil north of the condo, that had me throw iron for a few minutes. Back on the beach at 8 AM. Thanks for the pix VITO! Fish weighed 21 pounds 3 oz on the beach, I went to Fisherman's Landing for a certified weight for "Capture the Flag" 21 pounds even. YT flag should be mine for now :D I also shot the whole thing on video, it is KILLER, just have to get my old video challenged PC to edit and upload it. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...619/6-7yt2.jpg |
Wow, great picture, and fish! I am headed out for the PM shift in a matter of minutes... :D

Awesome Andy. I saw you paddling in from a far. Straight out early looks like a great call.
|
Here is a short clip. I have 7 minutes and am trying to edit it and find the right format. I did this same clip, higher quality and it was 22 mb and this is 1/10 that size.

just like I dreamed it
I love it! Just like I dreamed it. Even better it was on one one of the first made. If you can send me a picture I would like to use it for my site. I want to talk to you about making a documentary with your new head cam.

Congrats, Andy, on another nice fish. Sounds like you made a great call heading straight out and hitting those fish while they were on.
Made the pier run only to have 2 dozen perfect greenies go to waste. Fed a number of them to that same (probably) knothead. He is one sly SOB. He'll sink out, head away, or any number of tactics waitng for a person to drop their bait back out...then surprise you. And he's got no fear. Everyday, that one seal is probably keeping a half dozen yakkers from catching nice fish out there. Wish that white from a month ago would take care of this problem. So we didn't get much use out of splendid bait. Most of the morning we trolled a B/W Storm and a surface iron, as to not encourage or feed that knothead. We only picked up one calico (on the Storm) along the way. We just watched the video a few times, living vicariously. We felt as if we were going to lose that yellow to that big dog, too, even though we knew you landed it  . |
Here is how it ended. The sealion turned and was coming right at me just before color. Thought for sure he was gonna get there before the gaff.
I'll add the sealion footage and piece this together soon. BTW I am throwing the surface iron on 20# Berkley Hi test. I want some 30# I am really liking this line, low stretch and strong stuff. Click here to watch 6-7ytgaffed |

The "nooo!" will likely end up on the editing room's floor  |
^   I will take it seriously next year when I think I have a chance @ WCW against you clowns...until then I'll just drag baits around half naked like a chicken with my head cut off and try to "get lucky" 8)
|
That sea lion didn't want your fish, just some camera time. Nice gaff job under the gun.
|
You "Hollywood"-ing it with leaving the clicker on while you fight the fish or does your reel just make that much noise normally?
Killer vid man |
that was wicked shit right there.
2nd vid is funnier than shit, when you keep lookin over for the dog.....FUCK lol |

Freaking great video & nice fish!! The quick pans looking for the dog are classic - I was actually getting stressed out just watching and waiting for the dog to strike!
Good luck with the flag! TL Rex |
I think I held my breath the entire time it was at color. I can't wait to see that in person again.... it's been too long.

That is super cool. I have been trying to do the same? What kind of helmet cam are you using? I have been looking at the ones viosport makes, but looking for any advice out there. Glad to know I'm not the only one who swears like mad in the heat of the moment! GREAT post.
|
Andy,
You are the man! That's awesome. Thanks for the videos too. I love hearing the drags work as the fish peels off line. Vvvvvvv-vvv-vvvvvvv Is there any sweeter sound? Sick bro. Looking forward to more vids. Iceman Fishing Productions. Glad Mr. Knot didn't swipe your fish. He hate me. -Todd P.S. I gotta get some of them Jimijigs. Were you throwing the trusty blue and white? |
Brent at OEX bought the camera for TEAM OEX. "Who wants to use it first?" I grabbed it :D The camera model was Brad's idea, Samsung sports camcorder. This was low light, almost drizzling. In the sun this thing takes REALLY good video.
Jimi, you should make those 1st edition stocky 45 looking ones as well. I was throwing the blue neon/white. Wish that pic was not so blurry. |
I just ordered a couple of jimijigs. The b/w and the neon b/w. Figured I had to try em out.
|
We see/hear you talk to your fish too. Excellent additional footage.
|
That video system is exactly what I was looking for. I had started to spec out a system with a bullet cam, mini DVR and a waterproof case. Unfortunately, everything I came up with was either too heavy, bulky or difficult to operate while on the water. That looks like the perfect turn-key solution. Are you bringing it on the Islander? I like to see it in action.
Awesome video! |
:D :D :D HELMET... hehehe...he said HELMET... :D :D :D
Just kidding... :D My computer won't load the link so I am feeling a little left out. Any solutions? Another link? |
I looked at that little samsung when it first came out. They were having a lot of software/memory issues at first. Maybe its time to give it a second look.
Again...Great footage!!!! |
Awesome!
Andy that video was awesome! I felt like I was right there. I will look for more vids in the future... Nice Yellowtail 8)
