NPH 2/14

Launched at 6:15 am, fog, visibilty about 50 yards. Major current going out. Fished moorings and docks. Four calicos. Lots of short bites. Current direction changed as high tide began to come in, 9-ish. Off the water at 10:45 am. Only about an hour of sun. Only saw three other yak anglers and a tuber.

Thanks for the report. Did you try the grass beds or drop offs at all?

ROSSOLY 02-14-2016 04:21 PM

Mainly fished grass. What/where are the drop offs?

there is a channel right off the coast guard station where the water changes drops off about 4 feet and then goes back up. I've hit spots along that channel a couple of times.

Also the sides of the main channel.

I was probably the tuber. Got 17 spotties with 7 between 14 and to 16.5 inches on the fly. The red pelagic crabs were back again and some of the bigger fish were vomiting them. All the good fish were tight into the docks.

Corner in the ocean?

"NPH", "right corner", "left corner" ... Respect for all oldtimers, but sometimes your locations are so well encrypted, we (the beginners) will never find them. And we'll have to come up with new ones. How about a dictionary?

Sorry, NPH = NewPort Harbor

No encryptions, people just start talking in shorthand after awhile. All you have to do is ask, someone will answer. There was no code when I said right off the coast guard station, all you need is your fish finder to locate the drop off.

What fly pattern were you using? Sounds like you had a good day!
