Video of Kayak accident

I was out diving the other night and at the end of my dive I ran into Tony of Team Sewer. Tony had just rolled his kayak and was in the water. He provided the details of the mishap in another thread. I happened to have my GoPro running and wanted to share the video. I hope Tony doesn't mind me sharing as I thought it could be helpful for promoting kayaking safety:

It's great to have a video that shows what Tony explained it his thread. People need to take heed because as you see, it is so much harder in the dark. If you go out alone and have a similar problem, you provably are not coming back. Practice all aspects of self rescue and carry extra safety gear and wear a PDF. Good thing everything came out OK. The missing or damaged gear can be replaced, your life is something else. Thanks for sharing this video, it will save some lives.

Well done guys, being prepaired, pre planning paid off and saved the night.

Glad you are OK, but I'm having trouble seeing the how the risk is worth it...especially after hearing about some divers dying this last week.

Not just this last week. It happens consistently every single season and nothing is changing. You should have to have an instructor level safety certification to even take lobster.

All I can say is Rick is a HERO!!!!! and then sum! You just saved me $200 as well, I was thinking of getting one of the auto inflating PFDs....after watching that eat you alive....better stick with what I have now.
That was a struggle......and a blessing in surprise.
Now you have been....UN Rick Rolled!

Wow, the tankwell was filled with water, scupper holes blocked , not draining.

Water leak inside the haul , bad x 2...
I will suggest buy some air bladders to fill major cavities underdeck that is not being used.

Nice to have a Guardian Angel around, but just in case he is busy , the air bladder can do great help. :)

This video should be Stickied...

How many times has each of us gone out in low light, marginal conditions alone or fished away from partners?

Thank GOD the water was warm, there were people around, and it was successful.

Good job keeping calm and working the problem....

That was sobering

mclanea 10-03-2014 12:59 PM

And my blood pressure just shot up while watching that. Awesome that you were able to help... think we all need more practice.

YakDout 10-03-2014 02:01 PM

Ricks the man! But I didn't even see his name come up in the other post???

YakDout 10-03-2014 02:02 PM
