Another El Nino visitor

It seems El Nino is bringing more surprises to California, a sea turtle normally seen in Mexico was spotted in the San Joaquin River in Northern California in fresh water. It appears to be fine.

Well, El nino might hang around for a long time.

I hope it hangs around long enough for me to make a couple of trips to La Jolla when the water warms back up.

Don't sea turtles live here in the SD bay too?

they could, the article I was reading said these turtles are mostly seen in Mexican waters but SD is close enough to have some visit. I don't think they are seen in Northern California waters too often, especially in fresh water rivers.

Yaa I know my hunting buddy was telling me they did research on SD bay sea turtles during his masters program. I didn't even know they live in the back part of the bay but apparently they do.

And yaa that's what I was thinking. It's chilly up there, and in fresh water... That's weird.

There's a bunch of crazy tropical species that live in the back bay near the power plant waste heat outlets. I'd heard reports of clown fish and other tropicals. Definitely also turtles there.

there is actually a resident population in SD bay....

and they frequent La Jolla Shores often... I have seen one while landing my skiff at the La Jolla launch...

And the videos below were taken by a diver just outside the surf in La Jolla at the Marine room!

We had a smaller green sea turtle that was being spotted for a couple weeks in Huntington Harbor about a month ago. First I had ever heard of in here.

I saw one in la Jolla this summer. It was better than catching a yellowtail. (Well almost)
