Question: how to keep your catch fresh?

Just curious, you caught fish, let say YT, Do you just leave it on deck, inside, or in the water w/ game clip?
-Leaving on deck, bad on sunny day?
- In the water, what about the seals?
Or just pack up and go home to enjoy fresh fish?

Put it on deck covered in a wet burlap sac from squidco, a buck a piece. Splash water on the sac every so often to keep it cool.

Ideally if you can pack it in a sack with ice that would be best. I have the front of my Prowler rigged with a catch bag that has ice packs in it to keep the fish cold until I get back to shore. Go fishing out of Seaforth and you'll see that most of their boats store the fish below deck in a Salty freezer rather than on deck in sacks. Below deck out of the sun is the best way to carry your catch.

I use a SHAM WOW!! Once you use you'll say WOW... to cover my catch, eazy to wash at the end of the day....
and beside it works great(better than a sponge)for dryingout the bait tank before coming in...Works bitchen..

I follow the DM route...burlap sack, occasional water splash.

I keep a towel in the bottom of my yak to help keep the inside dry. If I catch a big fish, then I use the towel soaked in cold ocean water to cover the fish. rewet every half hour or so.

I never catch anything... Missed another one the other day.

I saw a kids kayak at sports authority for about 90. Would this be a good place for the fish?

I like to keep fish below deck to kep thing uncluttered and to avoid and unpleasant seal interactions. I put a damp towel over the fish and they stay cool. Mike

I also throw mine in the kayak. Helps make sure I keep my kayak clean since a fish can stink up a kayak real quick.

A stringer of kelp to blanket the fish works in a pinch.

Costco sells a insulated bag named "Keep Cool" for about $6.50. 17" by 23". Works great. Just make some ice slabs in your freezer, lasts a bit longer then cubes, and you're set. Held close to 30lbs of fish from a trip last season.

Real men leave it in the water, or was that get pulled in the water, I can't remember.
