Anyone else feel the same?

Every time I fill my Jeep up for $90 I can't help but think...

Theres a new reel..... theres a new rod.....

I always look at my expenditures in terms of what piece of fishing gear I could have gotten.

I need to start riding my bike more =/

gupppy 04-26-2012 03:51 AM

No, I didn't think of it like that. But thanks for mentioning it, I wil now...

I tend to think it's ok when the wife goes to the grocery store and spends 300.00, or paying 290.00 for cable, internet and phone is o.k. or 400.00 a month on smokes and beer is cool. But when I go spend 100.00 friggin' bucks on fishing gear I have a giant guilt trip.

TATER 04-26-2012 05:02 AM

X2 i think we should all boycott the gas companies and just buy fishing stuff instead.... lol :D

Since I bought my truck back in January I had not filled it up fully. A couple weeks ago I let the thing fill up. The gas station I was at automatically stops the pump at $100. My truck wasn't full all the way but I was shocked to finally hit the $100 mark for filling a vehicle, and yes, I did think wow, I could have bought so many fishing things with that same $100.

$90 - I wish I could spend $90 a week on fuel. My weekly fuel bill typically is $160! If I dont have any shoots to go to on the weekends I get to only put $120 of Diesel in the tank...
The drive to the beach is only 5 minutes, so I guess I have the argument that I actually save money by fishing on the weekends!

I spend $120-150 a week on gas, working 76 hours a week that money puts about 100k a year into my family if I spend 3k a year on myself for fishing, thats ok with me, and it better be ok with them. :D

One of the tackle shop guys at fred hall used that logic to try and convince me to buy a Tranx. Really thought about it but if spend 500 so will the wife

slobslayer 04-26-2012 06:56 AM

I spend 40.00 a week max and I drive quite a bit including a few fishing trips. Gotta love my 4cyl 4runner!

I can buy a PA every time I have to pay the rent:( and the most sad part of it, or TAX MONEY, goes to Israel and mid east war:confused:

My all wheel drive Ridgeline truck only gets used for kayak fishing .
All other times, I drive Toyota Camry to save gas.

Jeezus! We could name hundreds of things that our tax money goes to that never seem to pan out. Dept. of Education, Nat'l. Endowment of the Arts, Needle Exchange Programs, etc...

Gonna get completely roasted on this I am sure, but do you know what those big, greedy, evil, capitalist pig oil companies make per gallon of gas?

5 fuckin cents!

Do you know how much the state and federal gov't gets?

45 cents!

So, who's really the ones screwin' you?

I didn't make this shit up, but facts are facts, and numbers are numbers, and neither one of them lie. These numbers have absolutely nothing to do with politics, they just are what they are.

Alright, I'll get off my soapbox now!

Baja_Traveler 04-26-2012 10:40 AM

You hit the nail on the head Seriola - every bit of it true...

The 45 cents was just a national average that I remembered from a couple of years ago. It's comforting to know that the average has gone up, though.

kinda makes you want to puke doesn't it...and I disagree, it is all political...the oil companies and wall street speculators own the government, they just don't want you to know about it

For the most part, when government gets involved things get fucked up. Here's the best analogy to government control, er, uh, er, assistance:

"If it moves, tax it"
"If it keeps moving, regulate it"
"When it stops moving, subsidize it"

-- Ronald Reagan (when asked what's wrong with our government, his answer to current government philosophy).

Now we have people trying to stay in power pitting classes against each other unabashedly. I don't begrudge anyone who has become wealthy, or even obscenely wealthy. Good for them. But if I hear that the "rich people" need to pay "their fair share" any more, I'm gonna lose my mind. What the fuck is "their fair share" anyways? It's so vague, much like the platitudes these self-absorbed power-craving assholes always speak in. And it's designed to get us fighting with each other while they run off with all the fuckin' money.

If it weren't for "the rich" none of us would be driving cars, floating in kayaks, using the latest and greatest of jigsticks, or even bitching online about the lack of fishing reports :p because none of us would own a computer.

Sorry for jackin' your thread Neil! Let's go kill some shit soon!

mtnbykr2 04-26-2012 01:40 PM

Well put my friend...well put...now let's go get some fish:reel:
