Cedros Island 9/28/2016--Part 3. loooong w/pic.

1-Some island scenery.

2-Again there was a good reason for wearing funny hats on this trip. The Turkish fez was also worn during dinners while enjoying some Turkish Raki.

3-There was one pier in the marina, but it was not practical to fish it. Especially after fishing for big boys all day.
It also did not seem very safe, structure wise.

4-This was the catch for the first day of Dorado (Mahi Mahi) search and catch outing.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...i/DSCN3688.jpg

I lost several fish when I used a smaller hook and it would not set. Also lost a lot of hooks to violent headshake of the fish to be released.
My driver would lift them out of the water with line and the knot would snap.
Once I switched to bigger size hook, then the game was on. I hope to upload some GoPro action of the Dorado fishing and provide the link here.

Side note: After the dinner on the first evening; Jose (one of the nicest men that you will meet)--who owns the operation with his wife, gave a little talk
about the trip.
He is a marine biologist who is very conscious about the marine environment, recycling, pollution, etc.
He informed us that the daily bag limit on most of the fish is five.
He was not aware that for the Dorado the limit is only two. Therefore, I kept as seen in the pictures more than two.
When I initially posted this report, I was told by an angler who was informed about Mexican fishing regulations that the limit is only two.
I relayed the mistake to Jose, and he has modified his lecture. I am sure.

5-Then the second day search and catch outing.

6-One of the bigger Dorados.

I wish the photographer had told me to turn the fish. I should have checked the picture.

7-This Bluefin tuna was snagged while yo-yoing a blue and white iron for yellowtail. The fish was coming up sideways and fighting.
That let me to assume it was a big yellowtail. Everybody in the group and Jose were surprised that it was here. Poor lost fish.

8-A small version of the yellows.

9-Every day after fishing all of the rods would be rinsed and left on the rod rack outside of the rooms.

Umberto Jr. whose son as well as father working for the lodge. They carried our fishing gear every day from the lodge to the trucks, pangas and back.
This is not roughing it kind of trip folks.

10-I guess this is where the cormorants go for vacation!! An Island in Pacific. Heh, heh, heh

11-Nine (9) inch swimbait was not too big for the large Calico bass that reside there.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...i/DSCN3671.jpg

12-Here is a sample.

13-A new day, a new silly hat.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...i/DSCN3734.jpg

14-Edwardo using my companion’s rod hooks a nice fish, but it came off.

On Wednesday, my fishing partner was tired, so I drop him off around 4:00 PM at the Marina. Then I went after halibut in front of the lodge with live
sardine using a three way rig. I saw one small one attack the sinker, another bigger one got away, while attacking the three way swivel!

15-I knew there were halibut, when this bait came back raked.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...DSCN3757-1.jpg

16-I changed hook with a Khale hook, and on the first cast, I caught a not too big a halibut.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...i/DSCN3759.jpg

17-This was the catch on Thursday, the last day with the first group.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...i/DSCN3721.jpg
All of the bass that was kept were caught by my fishing companion. I did not bring aby bass home.

18-Dinners were always a treat. Soup followed by a nice Mexican meal.

19-On Friday while waiting for the new group to arrive, I had the boat to myself.
I decided to troll with two Rapala. Caught this Needle nose fish and a barracuda.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...bc3b2cc033.jpg

Later I had a new fishing partner who was a true gentleman and made the three days of fishing with him very enjoyable.

20-I got to drive while trolling for short period to let the driver rest a bit.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...i/DSCN3687.jpg

21-We used to catch this size bonito at the Catalina Mole, but for a long time.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...i/DSCN3823.jpg

22-These bass “porn” pictures are for Calico lovers.

http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...i/DSCN3839.jpg

23-My new partner had an interesting lure. Before we picked him up on Friday, he had 44 Lbs. yellowtail in his boat.
I had worked three days and yet did not have any after the first two days.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...i/DSCN3800.jpg

24-One day found a couple of kelp patties and caught Dorado next to them.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...i/DSCN3793.jpg
Another day no patties. Next day lots of big patties, but no one home!
