New Feel Free Moken 14

1 Attachment(s)
Feel Free kayaks is about to release their new open water fishing machine. At just over 14' long, internal bait tank, enough interior access for internal rod storage, new intergrated track system, king fisher high back seat and rudder option this will be a new go to boat for all of you that want to hook up on a big yellow or sea bass. The boat will come standard as an angler with or without a rudder. There will be a wheel in the keel but for those of you that don't want the ease of getting your boat to the water you can remove the wheel and install the plug giving the boat a standard keel.

Angler with rudder = $1,299
Angler w/o rudder = $1,199

Length = 14'5"
Width = 31"

As soon as they are here you will be able to contact me or OEX to try it out. Look for it around November/December with plenty of time to get one for Christmas.

I'm looking for feedback. Please post what you like and dislike about the boat.

nice layout Eric, diggin the 6 rodholders in back!

wiredantz 10-06-2011 10:25 AM

What is the weight capacity? And where are the scupper holeS?

RK 10-06-2011 10:28 AM

The love child of a WS Tarpon and a stealth?

Di$co 10-06-2011 10:37 AM

The boat will come standard with 2 flush mounts behind the seat giving the boater the option of placing their own angles on the other rod holders. Scuppers will be similarly placed as on the Moken 12 (just a guess).

Di$co 10-06-2011 10:41 AM

Weight capacity should be well over 500 lbs.

Drake 10-06-2011 11:20 AM

Where do the pedals go

pchen911 10-06-2011 11:42 AM

Any pics of the internal bait tank and how it is set up?

wiredantz 10-06-2011 11:45 AM

This looks like the 007 kayak model. Looks pretty cool

Di$co 10-06-2011 11:56 AM

Drake, the peddles go on your bike. :D

pchen911, No pics on the internal bait tank yet. I'll work on getting some and post them up.

I like the molded in front handle. I like the rod holders in the back. If this one has the wheel in the back, I like that too. I'm not too hip on the weight or the price.

Trident 15 $1189, Stealth 14 $1299........this thing has rod storage and live well so it SHOULD be $2488! :D

I plan to have this as a demo when available and will be thoroughly checking it out.

BTW OEX has worked with Eric for years, he knows his stuff!

That is a sexy looking boat!

Man the lines look clean. Bait tank all plumed for you and 500 pound capacity.

Im new to kayak fishing and only have the stealth 14. It looks that it has a hatch in the back of the seat. Can you use it and open it on the water if you have a crate behind it?? On the stealth its usless as the crate blocks the hatch from opening. I would rather not have the hatch in the back so the crate can be closer to reach. If you do the rear hatch make it face up so we can keep tackle or what ever in there and access it easy. A place to hide rods on on lanch and landing is just awsome. Im just learning what i like and dont like with the S-14.

It will come standard with the wheel but for anyone that doesn't like the wheel then there will be a filler plug you can replace the wheel with to give the boat a standard keel.

No sot fishing kayak is light and how can you not be hip on the weight if there isn't one posted yet? I'm not saying it will be light but with the wheel it will be very easy to get to the water. And I think the price is right in line, if not better then anything else in its class.

Iceman, thanks for the vote of confidence. Im personally very excited to have this boat come out so I have a new toy to play with. And its going to look sic in blue camo.

Just a couple...

Any way to see views of the hull, hopefully it's more like the Hobie Odyssey and not like the Extreme.

Can the live well area be intended for storage only?

Any way to make the forward hatch larger, ie after production, incorporate to a larger forward hatch?

Do dig the weight capacity, and the front handle.

What is the dry weight, and are there areas to be able to hold onto to haul over terrain with the yak on your shoulder with good yak neutral stability?

Looked at pic again, the black "thing' on the center console, is that flush, or can it be made into a hatch, basically, what is that for?

Most importantly, now, unless I missed something, where are the drain ports (holes) ????
Can't believe this was missed...

Last question, surfability...back to the bow...pics please...:sifone:

Handymansd 10-07-2011 05:00 AM

It sure looks promising!:drool5: I have many questions, but I will just have to be patient to see how it handles, how it keeps bait alive, how well the rod storage works, and ease of access, stability otw, how it handles launching and landing...
Love the wheel idea, maybe use wheel "plug" as a transducer mount idea ;)...
Is there a design for battery placement for ff, and or livewell, or is it back to the ol drybag/box method?

and where is the seat warmer?

and of course more pics!:cheers1:

Let's see if I can answer everyone's questions with the info I have about the boat so far...

The hull design is Feel Free's tri-hull. Extremely stable and moves through the water very well. The bow has great rocker and the way the hull flairs out to meet the top deck it gives the boat an very dry ride. Both Iceman and Brent from OEX paddled the 10' and 12' in some very gnarly 2' wind chop at the Outdoor Retail show in Salt Lake and mentioned how well the bows worked at keeping the paddler dry.

I don't have a lot of info on the bait tank yet. I was told there will be a separate area just in front of the black "thing" for your pump and battery. I believe this area will be dry eliminating the need for the dry bag/box battery case. But like I said, I don't have a lot of info yet and am going off of what they told me about it when the designer, Brent and myself were talking about what would make it work best.

Without doing something fully custom I don't think the front hatch will be able to be made larger. The size of the front hatch is very similar in size to the Wilderness Systems Tarpons.

The front handle is great. It is already in use on the other Mokens. If you look close you will also notice the side handles are also molded in making it very easy to turn the boat on edge and carry like a suit case or pick up and carry over your head. I use these to load my 10 & 12 onto my cargo van. The rear handle is looking like an under cling style. There is also talk of putting a normal carrying handle on the top deck.

"What is the dry weight, and are there areas to be able to hold onto to
haul over terrain with the yak on your shoulder with good yak neutral
stability?"

I'm not sure yet on the dry weight. My guess it will be similar to the Stealth and the Tarpon 140. You could probably hook a strap to the side handle, or use thigh straps to cary the boat on your shoulder. Feel Free doesn't use nylon eyelets as their attachment points (except on the bungee). All deck fittings are stainless and molded into the boat making them much stronger and eliminating as many holes in the boat as possible giving you less possible leak points.

"Looked at pic again, the black "thing' on the center console, is that flush,
or can it be made into a hatch, basically, what is that for?"

This is the same console that is in the Moken 10 & 12. It is not flush. If you wanted to cut it out you could open up to the inside of the boat but you would have to put in some kind of rubber gasket to make it dry. This area's main purpose is for storage of stuff that can get wet; i.e. tackle and tools.

"Most importantly, now, unless I missed something, where are the drain
ports (holes) ???? Can't believe this was missed..."

This is a computer rendering of the boat. The scuppers will be placed in similar locations as the Moken 12; under the feet, thighs, seat and in tank well.

How'd I do guys and gals? This is fun... Shoot me over some more questions and I'll work on getting more answers for you.

And here is one more answer to a question that no one has asked but I know all of you are wondering... Yes, you will be able to get one of these in our new Pink Camo.
