spooling braid?
 

Just got my Saltist LD reel back from daiwa. the anti reverse prawl was messed up from the shock of setting the drag to quick on a good drag burner and they replaced it for free.

anyways. stripping the 40lb mono and going to load up with 65lb braid. whats the best way to spool it up? i've always done it dry under a good load but have heard soaking it first is a good idea and spool it wet under high tension. ???

Take it to a tackle shop and have them spool it. If you do it yourself wet the line and be sure to put it on at a slight angle, Don't put it on straight, if you get a birdsnest or slam on the drags it can dig in and braid goes deep usually.

This is a good idea. I also like to put it on an old reel I never use. I mount it to a work bench or something and spool it on there half assed. I then set the drag light, but enough to create good tension and reel it in with the rod I'm intending to spool, again keeping the angle straight and not using the rod or guides at all, straight reel to reel. Make sense?

You may want to put some mono filler underneath the braid if you are puting it on a high capacity reel. The 65# braid is only about equal to 12# mono and will require a ton to fill lots of reels. The mono also helps to make a barrier, from your spool, to the salt water that braid soaks up.

Ya. I'm going to only strip off about half of the line . Ok so I'll soak it and then spool it. Why not use the guides ?

Soak the spectra? Why would you do that? Put it on dry and tight. Wear gloves or run it through a phone book with lots of weight on it. I've spooled it off a 6/0 with the drags set tight. Go back and forth every so often so it can't dig in.

alright, all spooled. 300yrds of 65lb PP with about 80yrds of 40lb mono backing. came out just right.
