06/27 LJ AM

0500 launch with the crew.
Surf 1-2ft
Water warm
Made Dines, Greens and Spanish

Got bit on the low rig, 70ft of water. Let it run, Put it in gear, tightened up and set the hook. Felt heavy , made a run, & pop. Bit through 30lbs. Sharky.

Saw a spot of smaller YTs come up. They were popping bait near the kelp, threw the iron at them with another guy, no chasers, no bumps or no strikes.

2 raked baits after that. Off the water by 0900.

Baits were pretty big. Saw some huge Guitar Fish in the surf line.

Dennis, thank you and good to meet you!

I think I launched right before you. Easy dry launch. I had a tough time making bait but got enough to start fishing. Saw some nice marks right in front of the condo, got a nice run on the flyline, pulled in a frayed line. Looked over board and saw a few smaller mako swimming around. Trolled 2 baits Northwest and found a spot of big yt abusing a ball of bait. Tried to catch up to the commotion and land an iron in the middle but the fish sunk back down. Threw the iron at a few more smaller boil and headed in. Easy dry landing.

So Nate, what your saying is you weren't fishing for "little fish" today? Just "Big Fish"? Just wondering.

No worries, Afran. I'm just glad someone can use it, instead of it sitting in the garage.

Same story for me. Paddled out at around 0530. I had to do a quick repair job to the kayak... My f'n front hatch flew off, on the freeway. Luckily, not a lot of people were on the freeway (NB 805, between University Ave and El Cajon Blvd.). I went back around, but still couldn't find it. Went to LJ anyway. Unloaded the kayak and duct taped a new hatch cover. Duct tape is your friend! We saw two finning yellows that weren't hungry, and my co-worker had a nice run that wrapped her into kelp. Pretty nice day to be on the water.

Bummer about the hatch, D. Glad your quick fix worked out. All quiet where I went except for a little T that played with my bait for a while and 14" halibut.

Dennis,

I have an extra front hatch cover for a tarpon. You can have it. When are fishing next?

Nate

Nate,
Thanks for the offer. I called Rik yesterday, and he was going to call the warehouse for an extra one. But, they had already closed. Fortunately, I went back and found it on the side of the freeway. Thanks again.

Brad,
Let me know when your out next... I'll get that $5 back to you.
