good overnight kayaking trip close to SD?
 

I love to backpack and I love to kayak. I'm trying to combine these hobbies. Does anyone know of a good kayak-in camping site close to San Diego? Salt water or fresh. Even a primitive camping sight as a jump off point will do, also. Thanks all.

If you're just looking for a place sleep, shower and charge your devices get the nearest motel 6. There's nothing like being able to shower and relax after a long day of fishing.

Maybe lake cuyamaca or Mexico?

I think you can camp tent in Coronado right across from the Aquatic Center on the bay side. I have seen boats park there overnight.

If you hear of something let me know. I like to do both as well and don't know of any place around here. Even if its just an overnight thing

What about the islands in fiesta bay, mission bay? Could you paddle up, and set up camp for a night?

If you like Largemouth check out Ferguson Lake. It's upriver from Winterhaven on the Colorado River. It's a backwater lake with primitive camping right on the water. I got in there with my 2wd Nissan Frontier, but 4wd would be much better.

Some great ideas! As for most of the places that are close, I live in San Diego It's easier just to leave from my house.
I am definately going to hit up lake cuyamaca, moreno and Amish Ed's spot. I have a 4WD jeep and it sounds like exactly what I am looking for. Maybe we can get a trip together early next year. It's hard for me to go to Mexico because of my job.

Now that it's cooling off you could give Salton Sea a try for Talipia and Corvina. Stay at the State Park.

I had talked to plenty of people about the salton sea and they all say that the corvina are gone along with most of the other brought in. Tilapia seem to be all that remain. They said they are everywhere in the summer but slows down in the winter. I'd be down if a group of guys would wanna go try it out
