I sometimes think I'm getting too old for this yak b.s. when...

  • at 52 years old, things hurt all over my body before I even start the day...lol
  • I show up to the beach on my one day off and the waves are big with short intervals...<O:p</O:p
  • each wave proceeds to fill my PA-14's front cavity prolonging my visit in the kill zone...<O:p</O:p
  • I get slammed on the landing and having to try and right the beast in front of a 1000 rentals <O:p</O:p
But I do enjoy the possibilities...one whirlwind of a day. 17# butt, 31# WSB and early limits of good bugs with a toad thrown in! Jim

Nice! I feel the same way sometimes. Beat up and sore but that feeling of pulling on a fish and the thump in the net makes it fade away.

That was quite the haul, Jim. If you're going to brave the large surf, You know the chance of a bad landing is a given. Holding up those trophies makes it easy to forget the landing. Now you get to enjoy some good dinners.

eating like royalty at your house. impressive.

We know the feeling...not of such outstanding success, but of the body aches when you reach your 50s. We hope to paddle vice peddle into our 60s, only time will tell on that one.

That truly is one of the most spectacular all-around catches that come to mind.
Did you catch the opener after midnight Friday to nab your bug limit, drop off the nets, relaunch to catch the 2 beauties?
What was your sequence of events for that fine haul? We're curious.

Wow, I'm 52 and still tired from Sat midnight to dawn lobstering. Thought about going out for YT that morning for about a second, then realized that I can go fishing any time.

I actually want to do the reverse, that is, catch a gamefish first (or two) and then go lobstering that night.

Well done sir, it will be close to impossible to top what you did :D

Killing it!

kaya_one 09-28-2014 09:57 AM

awesome catch, Jim. I was wondering when the 2am text msg on the bug limit was coming. I guess you were on the water at 12, landing at 2, then asleep.

This is the way Jim looks at it...while we all praise him for his fine trifecta of a catch...he kicks himself for not hooking the YT to make the quadfecta.:notworthy:

Right on! I hope to be doing the same at 52 years young.

Deamon 09-28-2014 10:29 AM

Thanks. Aaron/Julie, Chris nailed it...launched at gray light to make macks to bug later that night. Glad I took a couple of rods with me and when I made some nice greenies right off the bat...my game plan changed. Drove home at noon, called the wife to p/u two big bags of ice, dropped off the fish and grabbed my hoop stuff. Had limits of bugs before 9pm...Jim

That's some damn fine work right there. :notworthy:

You guys are killing me. I wish I was only 52. At 52 I did have a lot more energy. At 65 the pace is a little slower and yes there are parts of the body that hurt sometimes. Most of that is from not enough activity, like I did when younger, so when you do something less frequent, you are not in the best of shape. I did get my left knee replaced almost 3 months ago and that took care of some bad bone on bone pain I used to have. Now as the ligaments and muscles get better I hope to get is better shape and loose some weight. Staying in shape and weighing less is the key. Until I was 47 I used to play soccer 2 to 3 times a week and that kept me in shape until the bad knee just couldn't take the running. Now I try to fish on the kayak and paddle for miles to get a work out.

What a dilemma!!! Get home and you have bugs, sea bass and halibut to process!! Stoked for you and enjoy the good eats. That's an amazing catch!
