Last chance yellowtail

This being the last day of the month, I figured I had to squeeze in one more trip, even though I had to be home in Poway by 9:30. I went straight out hoping to save some time, but I had a hard time making bait. Frustrating because it was all over the place and everyone else was catching it. Finally, after about an hour, I decided to try a different sabiki. First drop, big greenback. Pinned it on and maybe five minutes later got picked up. Came right toward me at first, and was almost at color when it really took off. During the fight, a guy named Toby paddled by to check out the fight. Nice guy, although he had nothing good to say about the WCW. Anyway, when I had the fish gaffed and clipped, we both noticed how green and beautiful this 'tail was. Awesome looking fish! Wish I had a waterproof camera or housing, I'm still working on that one. I'm headed to Rancho Leonero for a week on Monday, I'll make a report when I get back.

Nice work!! What class yellow was it? Also, was it windy out there this morning? Went to the check out the launch this afternoon and it was blowing pretty good.

Nice buzzer-beater, Tim. Helluva month! :luxhello: Glad to hear Tobey was out there. Haven't seen him around in a while.

congrats

Nice YT!

:yt:

Costco has an affordable 6MP waterproof camera that you may want to take a look at. You can only submerge it 5' but that makes it just right for the yak.

It went 27#6oz. There was a little breeze at the launch, but never picked up while I was out there

new sabiki

Congrats on quality fish!:luxhello:
I was the guy who suggested a new sabiki to you this AM.

Thank you Jimbo, what great advice, although I still don't know why it worked. I had caught so many baits on that rig before, and all of a sudden nada. Whatever, catching that one bait really helped:)

Very nice last minute fish!! Very nice fish in general, looks like it weighs more than 27!! NICE! :luxhello:

sabiki

I think that the elasticity of the line on the rigs gets funky after several uses and the rig no longer attracts bait like it used to. Plus some of the paper around the hooks gets torn or removed as time goes on.
I've found that pulling the rig out the rod and hanging it to dry (vs leaving inside the sabiki rod) adds to longevity of rigs.
