Two New Species in a Day

Got to the sewer at 7am. A quarter mile from the launch I dropped the sabiki to pick up some bait. After about a minute I pulled up a couple small barracuda. Normally I wouldn’t post something this small but it was my first and seemed rare for Cabrillo.

<a href="http://s1275.photobucket.com/user/Barbara-Medina-22/media/image1_zpsa7aedcf7.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y441/Barbara-Medina-22/image1_zpsa7aedcf7.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo image1_zpsa7aedcf7.jpg"/></a>

I put my sabiki back down and started throwing a waxwing to see if there were any bigger barracuda with no luck, except one greenback on the sabiki. I trolled the mac along the entire breakwall then headed to the outside the breakwall with no luck.

Since I couldn’t find any fish at all of the usual spots, I decided to hit up a spot I rarely see anyone fish. With the same mac I trolled all day, I started trolling this new spot and hooked up with my first white seabass. At about 24” this one made it back out to get a little bigger. It took a few minutes to recover from a deep hookset but then made its way back down.

Good job on the save.:wsb:
I actually think there are a shortage of crotch shots on this forum.

Be careful what you wish-for... knowing the people around here, you're likely to get "the wrong kind".

Nice report, good job on the WSB. You ever fish the kelp area over there?

I have fished the kelp around Point Fermin a few times when the surf was low. I caught all kinds of bait but nothing else. I haven’t put in enough time out there to get onto the fish. I have seen a few threshers surface though.

There also has not been very much kelp around the breakwall the last couple months which I think has slowed the bite down.

Right on. I had a few guys tell me about BSB, and WSB being caught in the canyon area over there. I've only fished there twice for a handful of rock fish and calicos on artificial. One thing I learned is to get off the water by noon, otherwise the wind gets pretty gnarly!

Way to go on the Cuda and wsb!

Cheers
