La Jolla rip off -Warning

I knew better too.:(
This is NOT an April fools joke, I got my vehicle broken into and my wallet stolen on 3/31.
Like a dummy, I left my wallet locked inside my Toyota Tacoma while I was fishing. I left my wallet inside the covered consol. What's strange is that only my wallet was taken and no other personal items? The phuckstick who did this chit, must have used a slim jim cuz there was no forced entry. I was parked on the street infront of the big parking lot.

Like I said, I knew better! It is what it is.
Don't be the next victim.

John

Serious bummer. What time were you fishing? I've always worried that we are very vunerable to any thief that is paying attention. Watch a guy launch at 5:30am, know you have a good 4-5 hours at least before he's back.

Sorry to hear that. I'll have to change the way I do things in LJ.

I used to leave my rods on the yak while I get my truck. Not anymore.

This is a problem surfers, and now kayakers, have had to deal with for years.
When I go kayaking, I take only my fishing and drivers license, along with a credit card, in a drybag that goes below deck on the kayak. The truck ignition key goes around my neck on a string. My kayak cart is locked in the camper shell of my truck with a cable lock.
Having surfed and kayaked for years in SoCal, I've learned to not to leave anything in the truck or camper while I'm out. My truck has no stickers and I use a club, even in my driveway. If I'm in a really sketchy spot, I have a burglar alarm, but those don't do much.
Bummer you got ripped off, takes a little more fun out of that ocean lifestyle we all enjoy. It could have been worse; the thief could have busted out your window or done other damage to your truck. Toyota pickups are unbelievably easy to break into(I know because I have one).
Or even worse; my surfing buddy used to pin his truck key to a towel and leave it on the beach while we were surfing(at 6AM on a weekday). When we got out he picked up his towel and went up to our trucks, his 4Runner was gone.

John, thanks for the warning, it might save someone else some grief. I get sloppy with this, thinking out of sight is good enough, you just proved that wrong.

That sucks. Little known fact that pretty much every Toyota and Nissan Truck can be opened with about 10% of all car keys.....Ever since steamroll reported his rip off, I'm dry bagging everything of value.

WallyWorld has clear hard waterproof plastic boxes for 8 bucks. I put my wallet, keys, camera and cell phone in one and store it below.:paddleersmilie:

Sad to hear that... :( thanks for the heads up...

It is likely the same thief will stick to the area, especially with the summer months in front of us...

I've been "hiding" my wallet in the glove box, but I'll be taking it with me from now on. Just another thing to toss in the dry bag...

jimbofish 04-02-2007 11:37 AM

Thunder Cabo,
sorry to hear! There goes all those condoms you stored there!

Seriously though, wish we could catch one these despicable phooks, and thrash them within' an inch of their lives!!:boxing:

Thanks for the heads-up, will secure all from here on out-

Handymansd 04-02-2007 12:42 PM

That is sooo uncool! Any one for hiding in a camper shell one cloudy Saturday and laying in wait? Or even sitting in another car waiting for our nice little rip-off artist to troll by? I would love to catch someone like that.:boxing:.

We would just have to keep Matt away from them so there is something left for the Police!!lol

Seriously, It is a bummer you had to have that happen. I will make doubly sure I take EVERYTHING with me from now on.

 I 'll keep an open eye for scumbags. They'll be caught. Thanks for the info.

Bummer. Thieves suck.

reel fishy 04-03-2007 06:43 AM

That sucks John.

Thanks for the reminder though. The kayak nation needs to stick together.

I'd pay money to see big Pat catch one of these bassturd tweekers and give them a proper smackdown. Maybe break a few limbs or a good Thai clinch and knee to the nose. Just thought of another good use for a gaff...

Thieves suck.

reel fishy 04-03-2007 06:46 AM

Or maybe even introduce the thieving POS to Mr. Forschner.
