Leashing in your Drive.

Since this is a recurring subject lately, and in way calmer launch conditions than I'm used to, I figured I'd share as an unsolicited PSA :D

MD180 is an expensive, non-buoyant part of my gear, so I am *never* on the water without it leashed in. Not even to transition from launch setup to engaged and locked in. Not for a second.

I don't use a Hobie made Leash because they already make enough money selling me molded plastic and molded plastic accessories.

I just use doubled up paracord from Home depot with a carabiner. I've wiped out in surf at least 2x and had my drive come loose from its bungee, and it seems to do the trick.

Here's what that looks like. The leash is just long enough that it reaches to the bungees where I store the drive when launching, and has never gotten in the way of pedaling.

Highly recommended.

About $11 with the 20% off coupon (Google it), no tax, and with free shipping if you spend X amount. 1/2 the price of Hobie’s. Have had both, great quality, and zero complaints.

:)

thanks. I used black paracord and black carabiners to tether everything...except drive...doh! will add tether to both drive and even chair now. but I probably anchor to something existing, maybe chair forward attachment somehow.

Heh. I own 5 of those for my rods and paddle.
Paracord gets the job done
