NPH Coast Gaurd Launch Fines!

My buddy just text me that Sheriffs will now enforce no Kayak launch zone at the CG station with a $500 fine. That totally sucks as for me it was the easiest launch area with wash down lol. He also said the beach launch at the end of the same street may not be legal now also. Can others chime in on what you've heard? Other launch sites? Id rather not drive to other side of Balboa if possible. This sucks.

Interesting...

I wonder what rule they are trying to enforce now...
And now they are prohibiting us from using the beach.

I found this :

Neil Patrick Harris has his own coast guard station? That's bad-ass!!!

Iceman 06-25-2018 08:08 AM

That is very odd as they are set up to store and launch outriggers. Sure it is not referring to the parking lot hours.

Might have to give them a call and get it straight from the horses mouth. Like what was already said, maybe they are just going to crack down and enforce the no parking before 6AM thing.

Mahigeer 06-25-2018 01:15 PM

$500.00 for parking ticket? I don't think so.

This is not the first time that residents tried to get rid of anglers in Newport Beach.

They just don't want people like us bring their property value down by going there.

jbl_91762 06-25-2018 01:46 PM

So I did call the Newport Sheriff office and they said yes that it is no longer allowed and there are new signs posted. However they said their waiting on city enforcement agency to give green light as to when to start handing out citations. So good luck if you decide to take a chance and park there. I was directed to visit the Newport Municipal website to find legal locations.

What the Hell kinda BS is this?!

Where are kayakers supposed to launch from now?

wiredantz 06-25-2018 02:16 PM

I visited the city website... and I couldn't find ONE SINGLE EMAIL ADDRESS...

I wanted to have written proof of where the City has allowed Kayak to launch their kayaks....

DPevin 06-25-2018 02:47 PM

probably all the fucking snooty outrigger rowing club types complaining about us taking up their parking spots.

If they are no longer allowing kayaks to launch from the coast guard station but continue to allow the outrigger stuff that is gonna be some bullshit.

This is still a little unclear. Is parking no longer allowed, or is it launching a kayak all together. If its just that you can't park there, maybe we can just park on the street and still launch.

Agree with all you said! I'll be out there this Saturday and will scope it out, but Im not gonna park and launch there, going to B Island to launch. I bet its the owners of those homes right there that complain. They should ban non residents then to enjoy that beach!!!

alanw 06-25-2018 03:20 PM

Wow no launching from public property, no launching before 8am, no using wheels even on the beaches, no crossing of sidewalks, this is some anti-kayak shit!

wiredantz 06-25-2018 03:35 PM

Sent an email to the city of Newport

Sent to: recreation@newportbeachca.gov

Hello,

I wanted to find out where I can get a map/ directory of all the place I can launch a kayak in New Port Harbor legally . I just got off the phone with the coast guard station because they will soon start enforcing a $500 fine for launching a kayak at the coast guard station beach (image attached) Kayakers have always enjoyed the freedom of been able to access the beach to launch our kayaks into the Pacific Ocean. Now we feel, that the city is discriminating against us and are going to take us to court for trying to use the beach to launch our kayaks.

Please let us know.... we have a community of over 5000 members that actively use the beaches in southern California.

Will post reply if I get one

Iceman 06-25-2018 03:43 PM

Wow, that does suck!

Money = Privilege

This blows me away. I've had cops come talk to me before when launching on the peninsula, home owner complained I was breaking into cars. Based on everything posted there will be few if any spots for us to launch. I wonder, is a float tube considered a vessel? What about a paddleboard?

Stuck20 06-25-2018 06:14 PM

Unbelievable. Newport was my (and I'm sure others') favorite fishery. Very disappointing.

Raskal311 06-25-2018 09:55 PM

First they limit you then they'll take it away all tougher. This is so sad....

Zed 06-25-2018 10:10 PM

Remember dropping your kayak on a beach and paddling out? Doesnt seem that long ago.
