I don't know how to catch crabs

went out on saturday, 7/14 in search of how to hoopnet for crabs. only had 2 hoop nets, 4 chicken drumsticks, and a can of pringles. fished the CDM kelp ranging from 20-40ft. dropped in big pockets between kelp, dropped next to big stringers of kelp, even dropped aimlessly in the middle of nothing. managed 10 sheep crabs (aka muddy ugly spider crabs). kept the 3 cleanest ones to eat. not a single rock crab was in my net the whole time (not even a baby one...). ran into a fellow BWE member, i believe it was kevin. talked for a bit and kept hooping until 11am then called it quits.

i know a rocky artificial structure spot in 80ft of water that i will try next time.. but i'm definitely bringing a fishing rod because crabbing is freaking BORING.

also.. the kelp is full of these little krill-like things. i wanted to scoop a bunch to feed my saltwater fish, but i was afraid of the bacteria and parasites that would kill my fish, so i didnt take any.

almosted tasted like king crab. i guess you could say bonito is poor man's tuna and spider crab is poor man's king crab.

i also used all of the meat inside of the shell. my parents never waste any meat. we used that for eggrolls. awesomeee

That was me out there. Sorry the crabbing didn't go better. Like I said the place where I have seen them is way inside. A little too much swell for that while we were out. Bummer, because it is a great place to catch bass as well. Better luck time.
