6/24 la Jolla

Haven't been otw in what feels like months...

Late start for me with a 0700 launch. Made 1 greenback and a bunch of Spanish mac and went fly lining for yt. Conditions didn't look great for it so I gave up after a while, went to the 120' line and dropper looped for my first halibut. Came on board nice and easy and ended up being 33lbs. Stuck it out for another little bit but no action besides some sea lions. Back at the launch by 1200 and only saw one fish being loaded up.

The parking lot and launch reminded me why I hate la Jolla summer weekends. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7a6f68631e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6cebd7cba4.jpg

If you're not catching anything, it may as well be a 33 lb halibut!

Yum!

Phishphood, you look very familiar to me.

One summer day about 2 years ago when the fish were boiling all around us, I was practicing my long distance casting with a topwater iron. I felt like I was zinging them out a half mile or so (in my own mind, at least), and was feeling quite pleased with my manly prowess.

Then a guy who looked just like you casually cruised by and let rip with some long distance casts that made my eyes pop. It was like he was having fun revving his engine at a stoplight.

Maybe it was you?

Mr. Nice guy,

The only way any of my casts would be eye popping would be how short they usually are. Also my kayak is pretty unique, bright orange with a completely open deck so if it was me, then thank you for the compliment and I didn't mean to show off.

Oh, also didn't move to the area til fall 2015.

Is that a NuCanoe? The shape and layout looks familiar but I dont remember what those metal looking rails are....

:cheers1:

Nope, it's a Magic by Native kayak. Discontinued since early 2000s if I remember right. The theory was for the aluminum rails and empty channels behind it to allow for a plug and play tour system. Unfortunately it doesn't hold up great in the long run as the different materials expand and contract differently in hot and cold weather. It does allow seat placement about anywhere, but as I found out if you use the same place every time with older plastic, you'll eventually punch a hole 😣
