where to launch in PV/Redondo

I might try to get on the yellow bite that has been going on in front on PV/Redondo. Where would be the closest place to launch my yak?

Closest would be Malaga Cove, hill is a bitch when you are done.

Add PA to Iceman's response and its a motherf_____ when you are done.

I'd rather pedal from Redondo to Malaga than to have to deal with that hill.

Figure on a 12-14 mile day to reach the area if you launch from King Harbor :paddleersmilie:

Your numbers are overly exaggerated, its less than 3miles from King Harbor to Malaga (the hill).

7 miles round trip ...........manana:D

ful-rac 10-30-2014 09:09 PM

Careful out there @ 10:00pm thursday, 4' @ 6.5 seconds....not good.

Iceman 10-31-2014 01:21 PM

pedaled out at 5:45am nice conditions, made it to the numbers before sunrise and boats just kept coming. 4 sportboats and about 15 PBs all spread out along the north end of the point. Did not see one good fish landed all morning.........yesterday the bite dropped off to about 5 fish per sport boat, hoped it was just a down day, may try again next week. The pedal over aint that bad :D

I checked yesterdays numbers for that area and yep.......it was a 'shoulda been here yesterday' day

Iceman, Did you launch out of malaga?

Yeah, dont think I'm going to go anymore with the weather being up. Dad did catch 3, hooked 4 on a sportboat on tuesday. Looks like its been on fire earlier this week.

Iceman 10-31-2014 02:20 PM

No I made the long trek from King Harbor, surf would have been cake today at Malaga, but that hill is just too much to end the day with for me..........getting old!

Same story Friday

I was out there today. Launched around 745. pedal was not bad. lots of boats and saw one other yaker. A few fish were caught on the spit fire after 11am. Other than that a slow day. with the weather front coming in, I think this is the beginning of the end of the yellowtail season for los angeles county.

Nope. Not overly exaggerated
Unless my triplog on my GPS is off which I reset before heading out
I've made the pedal from the hand launch to Paddleboard Cove and spots up to the point a half dozen times or more this summer and the lowest amount of miles was still 12 miles
How often do you guys head over there?

I've gone from King Harbor to Malaga once or twice and I'm positive its less than 6miles one way. I'm guessing you're doing an average of 2-3mph on your kayak so if your going 6 miles one way it would take you roughly 2-3hrs to go from from king harbor to malaga.

You need to add some more mileage to your destination because the YT bite has been closer to the point.
And yes, it takes a good 2hrs+ to get there, depending on how many interruptions I get on the way there(trolling for Bonito)
All I know is this, when I get back to the launch, my GPS tells me that I covered xx amount of miles that session :cheers1:

I was on the Esplanade at Avenue A Thursday with my binoculars... I knew something big was going on out there and figured it had to be a Yellowtail bite, but I never followed up on finding out that day.

I counted 38 boats at 9:30 AM (sportfishers, 6-paks, small skiffs, and a few kayaks)... looked crowded out there.

I can't do any kayaking until I get an okay from my surgeon after my spinal fusion surgery I had done on my neck in September. I see the Dr. Thursday so hopefully she will give me the green light soon!
