Windy SD bay

Evening Fishing family. FishinMike And I went out this morning. Got on the water in the shelter Island yacht basin just at sun up. Water was warm slight breeze from the west. Perfect day for fishing. Went out to fish the Lower Range marker and got a couple small spotties. Fishinmike fished the area near the pier. Went out deeper in the harbor cut some bigger spotties. Current is moving at a decent rate so I drifted out to the bait barge. Caught a lot of Macks. Wind picked up a lot so we made our way back to the lower range marker area. Wind made it difficult to stay on point. Finally called it a day. Good day.

Final count:
Fishinmike 12 spotties, 1 sandie, 10 Macks
Bubbacee: 16 spotties, 11 Macks, 1 sandie, 2 Lizzie’s.

We both caught a few foot longs in the group.

Where is the shelter Island yacht basin launch?

Harry Hill 07-23-2018 06:47 PM

are they finished working on the ramp, the last time I went it was one vehicle at a time and the boat guys were not friendly to a guy with two kayaks on a trailer. I don't know where Kellog beach is so I didn't head over that way.

Papa Dave. Launch from the beach at Shelter Island Yacht basin. Lots of yakers do. Across from police dock.

Harry they are still working on launch ramp

SD Bay Launch Sites.

The beach just south of this marker is where most launch on Shelter Island. No real parking issues here.

This is the marker for Kellog's Beach which is across form the Harbor Police Guest Dock. There are two hour parking limits here...not sure how often this area gets patrolled though.

Yeti, do you just park and roll your yak to the beach?

Definitely.

The spot on Shelter Island next to the launch ramp has parking right there with just a sidewalk between parking and the beach. The only hindrance is a short steep section.

Kellog's Beach has a couple of different access spots. It's just a longer haul in general. There's a few steps on the south side and the north side you just go through the vehicle blocking posts and take a hard right.

I guess I need to go there with someone that knows the area. It was a mess the last time I was down there so I just left.
