You can fish one or the other.

Mr. NiceGuy 04-10-2018 06:57 PM

PLEASE CLARIFY:

1. Where on Santa Clara is the launch point, weigh-in and barbecue going to be set up? Near OEX on the north end, or near the larger parking lot on the south end?

2. East side facing the bay or in the coves on the west side?

I would rather plan for this now than fumbling around or guessing at 3am on Saturday morning.

Thanks!

Iceman 04-10-2018 06:59 PM

most people launch from the beach on the NE side near the ball field parking in the lot near OEX BBQ is right next to OEX

https://www.sandiego.gov/sites/defau...160802302a.pdf

This link shows what/where they closed last year.

Looks like there was at least one lane open on W Mission Bay Drive and Seaworld Dr at all times.

Mission blvd at San Rafael place was closed between 0700-0800. They may have let people through as breaks in the runners allowed.

Below was copied and pasted form the linked site:
Onramp to Ingraham/W. Mission Bay Drive will be closed from 6:35 – 7:20 a.m. To access Ingraham, cars will be directed to continue on Sea World Drive and make a U-Turn at Nimitz.

Again, for whatever reason I havn't been able to find anything published yet about what is actually closed or open yet for this year's event. Do your own due diligence and plan accordingly is all I can currently suggest.

Iceman 04-11-2018 09:07 AM

For a safe bet I would plant to take Grand to Mission Blvd to Santa Clara Place.

This might be a dumb question but I just want to be prepared
On the rules list it states no propulsion system “human power only”
Mirage drive are ok right🤦X♂️

They just emailed me back with a clarification, they said Sea World drive West bound will be closed but the east bound lane will be open. For mission bay drive, one lane will be closes but SDPD will be there is a solution for both directions to be drivable.

Weigh in boats

Noob here and I may have missed it but where will the weigh in boats be? Moving? anchored? What is the deal for that?

yes.

Iceman 04-11-2018 04:16 PM

2 weigh boats will move through their designated areas.

Captains meeting at 6:45 before shotgun start at 7 for the bass division.

tstephens3232 04-11-2018 04:29 PM

The wife and I are both paid for the halibut division but not 100% in yet.

Thought I read somewhere that you don't need to be present for the raffle, is that correct? If make it we might have to get back home early.

Iceman 04-11-2018 04:36 PM

If you purchase tickets at the tourney you will need to be there when your number is called. We had requests to offer online sales for people unable to attend. These numbers are cataloged.

Mr. NiceGuy 04-11-2018 06:20 PM

If I can help as a volunteer on site in any capacity, please feel free to call upon me for any reason. I used to be a Boy Scout so I'm good at all kinds of event chores.

"Hey YOU!" is all it takes.

I'll be the moist guy wearing lipstick, probably relaxing with a fine, deliciously fragrant cigar after a thoroughly rewarding morning of kayak fishing.

PS - I love the thrill of buying raffle tickets to help support kindred spirits

Name tags might be helpful so we can introduce ourselves in real life to friends we know here by their BWE posting names.

You might want to move this to the proper forum and while you’re at it what the hell is that thing?

Iceman 04-12-2018 07:33 AM

I will be posting a early sign up for halibut division tomorrow in the general forum. You can launch as early as 4 AM for halibut only. Shotgun start 7am for bass with sign in at the front door of OEX and a 6:45 Captain's meeting under the palms athe the NE corner of the ball field, by the beach.

Pocoloco 04-12-2018 08:20 AM

Over 100 players. Your gonna need another weigh boat! or lots of patience.

Natural_one 04-12-2018 09:01 AM

Can you clarify the weigh in on the bass division?

-say I have legal fish 14" and over in my livewell. Do I need to find a weigh boat no later than 1pm and/or is another option to bring them (alive) to the launch where another weigh station is?

-Please confirm the weigh boats are going to be roaming around inside the bay or are they designated in one spot.

Thank you for all you guys do setting this up!

Usually by the end of the fishing day, at least 1 of the weigh boats will be back near the launch. Typically from what I understand you just have to be in line by 1pm for your fish to qualify.

Iceman 04-12-2018 11:07 AM

First place in the bass division is getting a custom carved pendant, trophy stein and this sweet Seigler Reel!

Does the one rod apply when trying to make bait.

Or can you use two rods to catch bait, in the halibut devision.

summers in kuwait 04-13-2018 09:45 AM

All signed up and can't wait..

For those you haven't attended this event or for those still debating on attending, this event is one of the funnest and most rewarding events in our local kayak fishing community and helps fundraise for HOW

Andy, Mike and all the volunteers do an absolutely incredible job with this event!

I caught 27 fish
2 halibuts 16 & 18 inches
1 calico 13"
24 spotties all under 12"
I must have been fishing the nurseries

Amish Ed 04-16-2018 09:02 PM

Yep, lot's or shorts around and willing to play. I had 7 shorts and lost one at color. Only fished 2 areas that didn't have biters. One was an area with moss on the bottom (never had luck in that type of bottom) and another area that was devoid of any vegetation. Steve and I were only out for about 2hrs, but we had fun.
