HAPPY NEW YEAR.

No I am not drunk.

At 9:15 AM Los Angeles time this morning the Persian New Year began. The year of 1397.
Which is the beginning of the spring.

Here is one of many written articles about Nowruz (new day):

Tonight my family will be at a party enjoying a similar feast.

So, curious - what happened in the Middle East 1397 years ago to kick off year zero? Wikipedia was not any help at all...

Happy New Year to you, also! Hope it is filled with fishing! :-)

To the West all Muslims are Arabs. Not true.
Persian history goes back more than 2500 years, but this calendar was forced on Persians along with Islam. It was after the Arabs killed Persians, destroyed art and burned libraries.
I rather not discuss it any further in this thread.

When Was Year 1?

The Solar Hijri year count starts with the Islamic prophet Mohammed's migration (Hegira or Hijrah) to Medina in 622 CE. Although the Solar Hijri calendar shares this start date with the Islamic calendar (Hijri calendar), the calendar systems are not related otherwise.
1397+622=2019

The Hijri calendar is a lunar calendar. Because of this, the year counts between the Solar Hijri calendar and the Hijri calendar differ substantially. For example, January 1, 2016 fell into year 1394 in the Solar Hijri calendar, which corresponds to year 1437 in the Hijri calendar.

Ahh - thanks for the clarification. Lots of bad history came out of that part of the world, so I don't blame you for not wanting to go there - but also alot of good came out of that part of the world to all our benefit (Persia was the cradle of science and technology before it all went sideways, and as an Engineer I admire that).
The one thing I did learn on Wiki is that all the myriad calendars everywhere are based on all sorts of different events and have differing cycles so none of them actually match up unless you get educated on the why's and wherefores.

Merhaba Kardeshim.

Wishing you and your family a very Happy New Year with lots of health, happiness and prosperity.
And, of course, lots and lots of tight lines and blue skies.
I hope you're enjoying some nice Parig.

Cheers!! :cheers1:
