Oil Rigs In Santa Barbra Question

I have always drove down the interstate and always looked at the oil rigs out there!
Always seems like it would be fun fishing but I know it's over 2 miles out but how far out is it?
Anyone every try to make it? if so how was the fishing?!

Seven miles out I'll take what I can get. Usually sandbass, reds sheeps and various rockfish. Planning on a early june trip to the flats, launching from The south end of dog beach gotta have a buddy to watch the gear as I go park.

For those who want too fish for a couple days and don't want to leave the family
I will be camping in a state park lots of things to do
Private beach for campers only
and we are looking at sandies, sheep head, and hali maybe and what ever we find at the rig so far there will be me and papa staying the night at the night

I fished the Huntington flats oil rigs last year from my friends boat. We were drifting and casting towards the rigs and caught a lot calocos and sand bass. but as we were going to the next rig the sheriff was giving another boater for fishing near the rigs. their is a sign that says to stay 300' away.
