Hammerhead at La Jolla

Finally got some video of the hammer head i've seen swimming around la jolla. i've seen 5 of these now in the last 3 weeks. This one only went about 6 ft and probably 75lbs. still cool though.

And sorry ahead of time for the poor camera skills... i was a bit excited.

The music is not only appropriate, but it keeps beat with the shaky film work in a good way. Thanks for the video.

Good stuff. Makes me wonder if they get as pissed as I do when I snag eel grass?

Pretty cool. I'd be thinking of moving along if one was circling my yak like that.

Smooth hammers are harmless. especially that size. its associating his yak (floating debris) with food. just looking for fish.

Yeah that guy was way chill. I tried scratching his back before I turned the camera o but he didnt get close enough.
I didn't feel that he was being aggressive at all. The local 7 gillsI are more aggressive than this guy.
And I'm sure he thought there was food around because I had a bleeding 20lbs yellow on the back of the yak. He probably followed the blood trail right to me. Good times though. Its a real treat to see these guys in our local waters.

Awesome! I had a much bigger 8-9 foot hammer circling my yak on Saturday. It was a pretty awesome experience. He was kind of aggressive, bumping my boat and trying to grab my bait tube. I'm assuming my tube, which was empty at the time, is what attracted him.

Do Hammer Heads taste better than Leopard Sharks?

Followup Question: Is it legal to just reach over and gaff the thing?

I'm sure it's legal but I dunno if I would want a green and pissed off toothy eating machine in my kayak.

As for taste... I dunno. If they did taste good I think you'd see it on the market?
