Got me some delicious suppa'!

Once again, I went out of Redondo again with the hope of getting a couple rockfish for dinner. Long story short, I found a new spot that gave up enough fish for a few meals.

First legitimate fish. Got this guy on a Zman minnowz in green pumpkin.

Small Calico on the Zman.

And then I got lucky with this little guy after endlessly scanning around the bottom for structure.

Murdered 5 of them for a tasty cause. I sent a couple of the reds back down using a DIY decompression tool (J hook rigged hook point down). I also lost one at the surface, thinking that it could not swim down, I didn't bear grab it. To my surprise the fish managed to swim back down considering the depth it came out of.

They've been eating good.

Pops did a few intentional hack job fillets for the steamer and the bones and head were used for soup.

All the meat was carefully picked off.

Damn were these Reds tasty! Much tastier than NPH Reds. It must be the shrimp that they're eating. Sweeter meat.

Awesome haul! What's the procedure for making a fish stock for the soup if you don't mind me asking? I've been wanting to make my own.

How did that short Calico taste? The fillet must have been bite sized.

It's an ancient Chinese secret. He will never share it.

Sure! It'd be awesome to learn from an experienced rockfish angler. I'm still learning the ropes on finding spots.

According to my dad, the soup is made first by boiling chunks of pork (any chunk should work). Next, add tofu, then ginger slices, and salt and pepper to taste. Add enough salt and pepper to your preference.Next , while all of that goodness is boiling away you can stir fry your rockfish bones/head just till the oils begin to seep out. Be sure to marinate them with salt, pepper, and little cornstarch before doing so. Lastly, quickly boil some mustard greens in the soup if you want some veggies. I think he adds some milk in the soup too, probably whole milk. Hope this helps!

lol it's a treasured secret only known to commoners! You better fly back into the country soon or I'll catch all the rockfish.
