f Squid?

Does anybody know where is a close place to the la jolla kayak launch to get some frozen squid?

dniss 07-11-2010 01:45 PM

Depends on what you mean by close

Walmart on Clairemont Mesa Blvd., just east of 805 usually has it.

dont waste your time with stinky rotten shit that ain't even for human consumption..
cause ol' Mrs.:wsb: would prefer the fresher..
come to think of it, so would ol' Mr.:yt:.......

go to:
99 Ranch Market - www.99ranch.com
7330 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, San Diego - (858) 565-7799

i should make a fresh dead stand at the launch.

Billy V 07-11-2010 04:06 PM

Right now it had got to be the Fresh Stuff or they won't touch it.

Fresh Dead from your leftover squid catching will work too , but nothing from the market will do.

ten bucks for a scoop of live squid.....i had a handfull from a friend today. they were lively......i got some good hits on them, but only landed 2 bones and a calico. oh and something big took off on my spinning reel and snapped the rod. that sucks.

Tman 07-11-2010 06:23 PM

This is what you do...paddle out, right past the reserve, use your sabiki or a small esqueed catching rig, catch up a bunch, put it in your bait tank, and add a big block of ice to your bait tank.
And if that doesn't work, take them home and throw them in your freezer.

I wasnt able to make any squid last thursday.Just wondering if anyone has had any luck since.

FISHIONADO 07-11-2010 07:36 PM

My last two WSB took the frozen squid pinned on a salas 6x rather than the live squid I was also soaking. I only buy frozen squid from Squidco, nothing else compares including 99 Ranch Market.

Ditto to the above from Dave. In fact I hooked a wsb on an iron tipped with two half squid because the bottom feeders nibbled off their heads.

Is this a joke or something? Outer Banks has been on station for a couple days selling fresh squid:confused: Word is he's gning yakers with bait tubes a serious "discount":) LOrd the guy's on the radio every 10 minutes. Free advertising - which I fully support of course!

This must be a goof.

Whizz Bang 07-11-2010 10:07 PM

Or.....

You could launch at 3am and paddle over to the boat with the massive spotlight and get a HUUUGGE scoop for free....he wouldnt even take any money for it....whoever you guys are, thank you!

FISHIONADO 07-12-2010 08:28 AM

Would the good fishing last longer if the squid boats didn't remove all the squid after spawning?

-scallywag- 07-12-2010 08:57 AM

I have had good results with all of the above...fresh frozen, store bought, live....if they the WSB are around and actively feeding they will eat just about anything you put on the iron...even a bare iron doing its best squid impersonation!

For me, the iron has produced about 5 times more WSB hits than live squirts on the dropperloop or carolina rig...I mostly use dead or frozen on the iron and save the live ones for the bait rigs, or my picky friends. The YT on the other hand seem to be very picky and only eat the live stuff or the bare iron.

ohh yeh, did i mention how much easier it is to land one of those soft lipped toothy giants on the iron? Good luck out there guys!!

Seems to me the squid boats have drawn alot of pressure on the grounds especially at L. J. I selfishly hope that they go away. JMO.
