Spare parts bait tank
 

I used an old 58 qt cooler and painted it to match my PA. I plumbed it with 3/4 pvc a back flow valve and a 500 gph pump. I took a couple plastic light fixture covers and rounded the corners of my cooler to prevent the bait from bashing their little skulls into the corners. I strengthend the corners by stuffing foam into the corners and siliconing over the top. The silicone didnt smooth out like i wanted....it was a little to cold that day..... but it will do the job I guess. This cooler fits perfect in the rear well of my PA. Im to cheap to pay for a hobie livewell

I think that PVC 90 angle and long arm will take a lot of stress when you tangle up some big kelps. :cool:

Should I use all hose from the 90 off the box to the water then ?

How many gallons is that thing? Have been on the water with it full of bait and water? Again, looks good but it seems like it may get heavy once its filled.

Easiest way I would just hook a supporting rope around the rod holder and the end of that long arm, share the load.

I test filled it the other day and it took approximately 10.5 gallons. Im taking it this Monday for a shake down.

10.5 isn't badbut are you sure that's accurate? The Hobie bait tank hold about 8 gallons (depending on how high your drain is positioned) and yours seems a lot larger, or is it the picture that makes it look larger?

Its real close on the gallons.....I used a 5 gallon bucket to fill it to the over flow....you can see the overflow is quite a was from the top and the curves reduce the size too......Ill do an exact today and know for sure.....either way if its to big all i need to buy is a smaller container all the other parts are there...... Learn by doing i guess

What type of paint did you use?

If it holds to much water just plug the drain hole and rill another one, no need to go out and buy a new cooler

I hate negativity but,I got my money that it's not gonna hold.i have same size rigged on my sea doo rxt and when I reach over to get bait,I gotta watch my balance.let alone a kayak.i recommend you go with the hobie.i was putting it off and made a few livewells and I probably drop the same amount than if would of just got the hobie well.talk to Andy and maybe you can put one on lay-away.you should do a test run first with no gear.if you are going Monday, I will try to meet Amish Ed at Dana point around 6:am.:cheers1:

I think you did a beautiful job on the livewell, but I fear bennyblanco may be right. Your cg is gonna be way high if that things full, and if you fill it less then you still gotta dig around in a huge bin when you could have a nice lowpro hobie tank. Dont trash that one though, that would be a perfect livewell for a small skiff.

Now it just needs a nice bank of rod holders. Sweet tank, the paint is a nice touch, really clean looking.

The PA should do fine, unless you're a 400 lb gorilla man.
