The rain didnt stop me today.

Over the hill, rocks exposed up and down the coastline, easy shore launch, glassy water. Got over to the launch at 2:30 today got on the water at 2:50PM

Fished the kelp for about 45 minutes, not a single bite. Paddled around for a while and the rain started pouring hard. Lucky i was wearing waders and a rain jacket. Stayed dry.

Switched out jigs and that did the trick.
First fish - 16 1/2 inch Calico Bass. Bit one crank off the bottom.

Paddled more and the rain let up, found some loaded boiler rocks!
Second fish - 11" calico released.
Third fish - 6lb 22" fat calico released
Fourth fish - boiling to the surface 2 feet from he kayak bites and unbottons
Fifth fish - 10" calico released

Starts raining again
Sixth fish - short calico slaps baits at the surface and mised the bait.

About another 3-4 shortbites and another 5 lb calico in the pouring rain which was also released. The ocean was amazing today no wind at all.

Thanks for the report. Great job figuring out what they wanted. It's nice to know that the bite is still good when it rains.

sounds fun to me.A calico bass puts up a good fight and i never get tired of catching them:cheers1:

The rain didn't seen to affect the bite one bit. In my opinion it improved it slightly.

In the area I usually fish, I have noticed that when the water is clear, its really hard to get a consistent bite. However once it started raining it stirred the water and murked the water just slightly THE BITE WAS ON. Left them biting.

Agreed, especially 15 lb mono on a little baitcaster. It's always my backup plan if nothing else wants to bite.
