Catching Squid

Hey I noticed people were catching smaller bait sized squid and using them for bait to catch WSB. Does anyone have any tips to catch these guys?
Do you get them on the sabiki?

Any tips are appreciated.:wsb:

Something like this with a sinker attached is a good place to start. A slow jig up and down. After a while you'll get the hang of it and be able to feel the extra weight when they grab onto the rig. They're small so its kinda hard to feel them grab on at first.

I'd recommend an YOYO Iron on the end of it. ;)

Hooking Squid

Where is the best place to hook the squid when you do get them? I never used live squid for bait before usually dead squid pieces.

Thanks for the tips!

Where can the small squid jigs be purchased? All I can find are the big three inch long versions.

I was in Charkbait on Midway today. They have them by Lead Master and Izorline. And thanks for the Yo-Yo tip!

Most tackle store sell the bait catching squid jigs. The larger jigs are for the jumbos or Humbolts. Sometimes on the overnight boats to the islands you have to help catch bait with the bait catching jigs. Sometimes if they're really on you can get 4-5 per drop... of course if they're that good the crew can usually brail them on with nets and you can go back to your bunk.
